After reading Izulde's FTB answers I was surprised to read he went to the University of Wyoming. That makes at least three of us that I know of from this board that have spent time at UW. Wyoming isn't a small college, but it's not a huge college either. I'm interested in seeing if there are any other colleges that have a collection of current or former students that post on this board. So please just take sometime and post what schools you have or are attending. And let's make a tally.

You may get more responses if you change the thread title to something like " where did you go to college"

Dola --

I went to UW, too. And yeah, the title actually threw me off. I avoided it, I thought they wanted money.

Umm...let's see.

Washington University in St. Louis (but as a nondegree seeking student when I was in the Air Force...still, a pretty rockin' time)

Monmouth College (Illinois)
University of Wyoming

My degree came from Excelsior College in New York. Because I had tons of credits from CLEP and stuff from when I was in the Air Force and because of different Gen Ed requirements from a small liberal arts college to a medium sized state university, I would've been taking a lot more classes than I wanted to and I already had 133 credits by then. And I got a job and knew there was no way I wanted to be messing around in 1000-level classes I'd already taken, but that UW somehow deemed "not good enough".

I'm from New Jersey, though. So I'm far more loyal to that state than anything else. It's a weird existence...

Wait, so you're not going to the Uni anymore, DC? What are you doing now then?

We'll see where I end up for law school...

I'll give you two guesses

(and if it takes you more than one, I'll send Tommy back to hit you over the head with a tack hammer)

I live in Laramie. I work at LCCC in Cheyenne. I started working there last summer, that's part of why I just wanted to be done with school. I might go to grad school at UW, but I haven't decided yet.

University of Maryland for both undergraduate and graduate work. I figure that's pretty obvious.
I think there is at least 1 other out there..

I thought it was kind of frowned upon to attend grad school at the same place you got your undergrad? Obviously it worked out for you, tk, but that's what I've always heard...

It can be considered bad form to get all of the degrees from the same university and same program. However, 2 out of 3 is generally OK. It looks "bad" when you get a bachelors, masters, and PhD from the same university and department because it looks (to some people) like you didn't try very much and may appear that you weren't good enough to go anywhere you weren't known.

I have my bachelor of science and master of science from there. If I were to go for a PhD, I would be looking at other universities. It should also be noted that I did my stuff in two different departments. My BS is in physics and my MS is in aerospace engineering. At Maryland, those are two different departments and sub-colleges (physics is College of Computer, Math, and Phyiscal Sciences, aero is School of Engineering) so my case isn't quite like others.

Of course, if I were going for a PhD, it'd be in a different field from physics and aero and for what I'd study, UMD doesn't have a real program in it anyway.

So yes, if you go to one school for all the degrees and stay in the same department, it's really not that great. But doing BS and MS or MS and PhD is alright, and it's better if you do things in different programs of study.

Probably should have changed the title, but I was mainly just curious if there were any other former UW students on FOFC. So far the tally is:

Wyoming: 3
Maryland: 2

A bunch of schools confirmed at 1.

With JeeberD attending CSU the Mountain West Conf. is up to 4 former students on FOFC.

Well Pumpy at least you added to your post count, right?

CSU was still in the WAC when I went there. You couldn't catch me dead attending a Mountain Worst school... ;)
