OK, SRSLY, The SF Bay Area has some Nice Weather

Ever since I started flying out here in October from Chicago, I've enjoyed the weather. Warmer, for a start, with some really nice days, even in what they call "winter" around here.

But the past couple of days? Unreal. I think it hit me when I was playing a pick-up game of Ultimate Frisbee last night in San Mateo. Temps in the mid-60s, low humidity, not a cloud in the sky. Then today, as I'm on my way to the airport, pretty much the same, maybe a bit warmer.

If it weren't for the ridiculous house prices and the punk-ass state government, I'd even consider moving here.

Anyway, just sharing. Off to catch my flight.

I moved here from Boston 2 months ago. I don't miss the snow. I do miss the fact that this is one of the few states where the state income tax is higher than Mass. :D

Seattle isn't generally as warm as SF, but it does share the milder coastal weather. Today it's a beautiful sunny day in the low-60's. It's not cheap to live here by any means, but it is cheaper than the Bay Area.

Yeah it's been beautiful here. Hell, it's always beautiful here. You get what you pay for, although it is crazily expensive. Next time you're in San Mateo, go eat at Pancho Villa's..I've never been but I hear it's fab.

I-80 was closed today for a while. We've got 7 inches of snow on the ground and counting. Had six last Saturday, though it melted on Sunday when it was 50 degrees.

Every time I get used to this place, we get crap weather and I think, "are you kidding yourself?"

I was in Santa Monica over Thanksgiving and I didn't want to leave.

I remember when the road got closed out of Denver over Thanksgiving so the bus had to turn around and I had to fork out $100 for a hotel room.

BTW, I hate San Francisco, but yes, the Cali weather in general rocks. Santa Cruz is another terrific weather city.

Cupertino isn't bad in the weather department either, just watch out for the drivers.

The housing cost department is a joke in Cupertino and it's surrounding areas. You definitely don't get what you pay for here.

You know, I've never understood the thinking on this. I've lived here pretty much my entire life and there's really only been 2 earthquakes that had a big impact (Northridge and the Bay Area quake). How does that stack up with other areas (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc...)?

It's probably comparable to other riskier areas - in my lifetime, New Orleans has only been signifcantly impacted by one hurricane (too be fair, if I was signifcantly older, there would be another one).

It is hard to compare the number of big impact events unless you are looking at very long periods. For example, there were far more major earthquakes in the Bay Area in the 19th century than the 20th century so if we had this conversation in 1905, SF would seem far riskier.

That is one thing I miss about the Bay Area. The weather was perfect for soccer. About the coldest it ever got was 50 degrees during our playing seasons. If you wanted snow, it was a few hours drive to Tahoe or Yosemite.

Meanwhile, here in the Austin area, the spring thunderstorms are making an early appearance. There was a reported tornado this morning a few miles away from my house.

It's pretty nice here, today, though. My friends have a bonfire planned on a beach somewhere in Santa Cruz tonight! If anyone wants to hang out with a bunch of uncool people, let me know!

Just got home from a week in San Francisco and Redding. Except for Monday morning, it was truly exceptional weather - generally cool and sunny. Quite the opposite of last year where it rained the whole time. It was nice to drive over the Coast Range and see the spring green before it turned to gold.

After taking my son to visit my parents in Redding, we came back down to spend a couple of days in our very favorite city - SF, including spending time with my brother. Went down to Half Moon Bay for the first time, always cool to see new places. The highlight was going to the Giants-Athletics game on Friday night. My son said it was the greatest thing he had ever done in his life so far.

I don't typically like urban life nor like being in big cities but I have always loved SF, its geography, history and weather.
