I know it is too soon to declare SNL back in full bloom, but gawd dang, the past couple of episodes have been hilarious. Rainn Wilson has been a hoot so far, and Peyton did an admirable job last week. There were quite a few hilarious segments last season as well.

It seems in the history of SNL that whenever a majority of people are ready to write the show off, they find a new crop of hilarious funny people to carry the mantle forward.

How did I miss this episode the first time around? I had no clue this was a repeat.

I just wish they'd get rid of all the women that think they are so funny and start smirking about their own jokes.

I think SNL is back on the upswing, but I think they need to cut ties with Amy Poehler fairly soon. She is very talented, but phones it it far too often nowadays. I think a big part of the problem of the past few years was that Tina Fey, as head writer, was very good at writing, but she allowed Poehler, Jimmy Fallon, and Horatio Sanz (all of whom can be very funny) to get too cute, too often. I cannot recall anyone, throughout their entire SNL careers, falling out of character more than Fallon or Sanz did in any given 5-6 episode stretch of any of their seasons.

They have a good base of talent right now on SNL. Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, and Fred Armissen are all solid, but not star material, but Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, and Kristen Wiig are as good a group of new players that they have brought in since the early days of Will Ferrell/Cheri Oteri/Jim Breuer/Darryl Hammond came aboard in the mid-90s.

I think if they keep from letting things get too "loose" again, they will probably have another good resurgence by the time the '08 election season comes back around.

Maya Rudolph is the worst of the current bunch. She has been on the show longer than any other female in SNL history, and I am hard pressed to understand why. She has no comedic ability that I can see and her biggest "talent" is that she can play a large range of different races.

I still like Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers and Ratchel Dratch and I think Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, and Kristen Wiig are solid. Horatio Sanz' act has worn pretty thin. Oh, and AFAIC, Darrell Hammond can stay as long as he damn well pleases as long as he doesn't do any more Phil Donahue.

Dratch and Sanz are gone. I like Hader, Sudeikis and Samberg. I think Amy Poehler will be moving on soon.

Poehler is the one I was talking about, I can't stand her.

I actually found myself watching a couple of skits last night and not feeling physically ill at how stupid it was. That's a far cry from the Tina Fey written years- her writing was dumber than a pile of rocks but when most of your cast members are lowest common denominator idiots like Ferrell and Breuer and Kattan, it's what you do, I guess.
