I just called them and theyre upgrading my dish to the 5LNB and a new HD receiver for only 19.95$ so Ill get local channels in HD and the add'l. channels theyre adding this year. Theyre not really pushing this but if you call them and say you want it they'll schedule you for an upgrade as long as your local channels are actually being broadcast in HD anyways. So give 'em a call 1800Directv.
My friend called and bitched and moaned (for no reason at all) and they ended up giving him and HD DVR machine for free, to boot. I did not go this route because I think its slimy as hell and he knows that.

Does that include a DVR?

mine did not come with DVR, just a newer receiver that would accept the new signal.
Here is a question:
I have Directivo in the bedroom but no HD receiver. Can I use the old HD receiver from the family room, used in conjunction with the TIVO in the bedroom to get the HD signal but also be able to use the TIVO service or is it one or the other only?

I got the HD dish and HD-DVR upgrade for $100 a few months back, but I didn't call and bitch and moan. I just very nicely asked them what the best deal was and calmly mentioned that dish network and local cable both give you free DVR's when you sign up. I think they appreciated me not yelling at them and did the best they could for me. I do understand where your friend is coming from though. I am always the guy that is real nice and ends up getting screwed over in every aspect of life. (Be it Directv deals or with chicks) Unfortunatly in our society the squeeky wheel seems to get the greese more and more often.

all i want to know is when the expanded HD channel lineup is coming...they have been running that "back to the future" commercial since before the superbowl, and i still dont have one additional HD channel!

I'm curious- I have a HD Reciever in the living room, and my dish is only a couple months old, I think I got it in August. I shouldn't have to upgrade anything to get HD locals, should I?

Yeah, I should dig up my thread about this to see when it was first announced. "By the end of the year" = December 31st, probably.

You probably do. HD Locals requires the 5 LNB dish (I believe that's what it's called) and you probably have the standard 3 LNB (please don't kill me if that's not 100% accurate on names :) )
