After seeing the success of Ronald Reagan and Arnold S., I've decided to do what is best for America in these hard times. I would like to announce that I am running for the President of these United States of America...

Will Tom Cruise be 1st lady? Ya know, for the church and all...

I'm pretty sure this is somebody with a duplicate account, which could be a bannable offense. I put him in a class with mel kiper's hair, a really unfunny gimmick that I wouldn't mind never seeing again.

Anyhow, I will grant you folks your wish. Old JT will retire to make room for the laugh-a-minute Schmidty and friends. You can go to bed tonight knowing you've made FOFC just a little bit better.

I'm not the most active mod (or member with mod powers, I should say), but I don't recall having a discussion about this guy, and I certainly have no clue who he is.

I also thought the offense was in simply having an alias, not just a trolling alias. But I could be wrong.

That's the way it was explained to me, but its also not like there's a Constitution around here. The rules are what the people in charge say the rules are.

Or, more correctly...noone gives a shit that you have other accounts so long as you're not using them to be a dick.

I could swear SD came down hard on alias accounts - at least those where he wasn't told in advance whose it was and why they had it - but maybe I'm wrong or he has since changed his stance. I guess not since JT has been allowed to exist. I don't really care if he's here or not.

That's exactly the way I remember it - you have to have permission.

FWIW, I don't believe it is a bannable offense to simply have an alias account. I think the rule is that it can't be used for trolling. SkyDog came down on a guy who was put in the box and came back using a different account while he was still in the box.

In any case, I am the comedic mastermind behind John Travolta. I had no idea he annoyed people to the extent that he apparently did with just 41 posts, since I rarely ever used the account except when some kind of Travolta news appeared. I'll freely admit it wasn't a particularly funny gimmick, but I certainly meant no harm. When it became apparent that people seemed annoyed by his existence, I decided to retire him last night.

Sorry for whatever distress this caused.

Edit: In the interest of full disclosure, I also have an account under the name Kang. Also, sometimes I exceed the speed limit when I'm out driving.

It would have been funnier (to me) if I had known who was making the posts. An obviously fake account comes off (to me) as just somebody being a tool. But if it was obvious who was behind the fake account, then the context is better understood, and that it is meant to be humor is more obvious. There's a couple of other obviously fake accounts used for humor, and I see them the same way. Tell us who you are, or else its not funny.

Other people will have different opinions. *shrug*

Kodos has it right. It's a boxable offense to troll using an Alt, and it's an automatic permaban to post under an Alt if you've been boxed. That's what happened to Suicane...

Simply posting under an alt is perfectly fine. No permission is needed. If it were so, there would be several folks who would have been banned long ago...

I agree with Saint Cronin. The only exception may be if a person switches completely to a new account for some odd reason but using an alt for humor rarely works as it usually comes off as someone just attempting to cause trouble.

Just my opinion though...

I disagree. Being an asshat is being an asshat. If JT were trolling, that would be one thing.

But I see nothing wrong with an occasional alt-post for humor's sake every now and then.

For the record, I tend to do this IRL too. If somebody is being stupid and it annoys me, I let them know they're being stupid. Perhaps this is why I'm single. ;) :p

That said, I just find posts like JT's from an account that's not used often enough for anybody to "know" who it is just a waste. A waste of bandwidth, a waste of space, and frankly asinine. I mean if it were Jeebs or somebody who were more well-known....that's one thing. But somebody who opened that account in 05 and has like 40-odd posts (half of which came yesterday), that's just somebody overcompensating for something...

Eh. I didn't feel particiarly mean about it, but I guess people here are thinking I was. Oh well.

The funny thing is, to this day I don't know who actually registered Erik Flamebeard of the Neither Here Nor There. Someone created the account, made a couple fun posts in the ZFL thread, and PM'd me the account info.

And now he lives in his secret place, waiting for the right time to come forth and wreak havok.

I stand by what I said about it being just stupid though maybe more people knew it was you, I still thought it was someone being bored and un-funny. Perception. A statement can be made by someone that you know that would be taken completly differently if it was someone that you didn't. It's the same way in real life. If someone you know jokes with you about something that doesn't mean you would take it the same way if someone that you had no idea who they were said it.
