Someone dropped Roger Clemens in my Fantasy Baseball league. Do I pick him up to let him sit on the bench until he decides to play this year? I already have Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia on the bench because they are on the DL. Here are my pitchers:

John Lackey
Erik Bedard
John Smoltz
Woody Williams
Jeremy Sowers

And Colon and Garcia for starters.

Relievers:

Todd Jones
Jose Valverde

If you really want Clemens, I'd give up Williams or Sowers and grab him. Sowers has more upside, but neither are strikeout machines and with Williams being a flyball pitcher in Minute Maid, his numbers could get very ugly.

You know what might be a cool idea if you are willing to do a bit of legwork....waive either Williams or Sowers as suggested, whomever is further from his next start. Then after the remaining guy pitches(except maybe if he pitches lights out), pick up the other one. If somebody happens to pick them up, there's probably not a huge drop off between Williams or Sowers and the next best unowned pitcher. You can rotate 2 or more guys for a few weeks which would easily make up for the innings that Clemens spot is costing you.

The only reason I asked about Clemens is because I don't want to get stuck if he decides not to pitch this year. Chances are he will. I should be ok as soon as my other guys get off the DL. And with Clemens I should have a pretty good staff in a 12 person league.
