So who's done tazes?
Distance Test Worksheet
1.Number of miles from your old home to your new workplace
2.Number of miles from your old home to your old workplace
3.Subtract line 2 from line 1. If zero or less, enter -0-
Is line 3 at least 50 miles?
Yes. You meet this test.
No. Y ou do not meet this test. You cannot deduct your moving expenses. Do not complete Form 3903.
I just saw this online and got a laugh... Note how the worksheet for determining if you qualify for deducting moving expenses is based on new vs. old workplace. So moving has nothing to do with it, it's where you work??? :D

I used turbo tax to do ours ASAP, why let the government get interest on our money when we can be getting it?

We used that form this year and qualified to deduct our moving expenses which helped nicely with the return which has been spent :)

I used the free TurboTax this year and, due to some odd work issues with one of my jobs, my federal return is fairly decent, but my state return is.....wait for it....wait for it....wait for it....a whopping $.85. That's right, 85 cents for a state return. You better believe I put that candy bar and 4 fireballs in my account for safe keeping asap when I saw just how huge it was.
This year, I got a big federal return, one decent size state return, but owed $2 to the other state I lived in.

Due to the adoption credit we got a very sizable refund that went to paying off the debt we incurred while adopting!

Done, and we have a batch of mead which, coincidentally, is set to mature on the 15th so we can celebrate! :D

I need some coffee, because I first read this as "we have a batch of weed."
I also need to double check my figures before sending my taxes in due to drinking a substantial amount of scotch while working on it...

To show how reliant I am on online communication, I did our taxes in February and submitted the federal portion online and got the money late February/early March. Because we moved into Kentucky mid-year, we couldn't submit the state return online. So, even though we were getting a decent refund, that return sat unsent on my desk until Monday, when I finally got around to physically mailing it. I should have just driven it to Frankfort back in February.

Our adoption was finalized on Jan 11 so even though we had all those expenses this year, we can't claim it until next year.
And we were counting on that credit (we expected to be finalized by late last summer) so now we will have a huge tax bill instead of being about even. :(
