That screenshot looks good. Story wise, out of all the superhero movies, Iron Man has the potential to be the coolest. This is the first I've heard of it though. What time is it being set in? I hope it's set in the past, but I doubt it will be.

Also, the fact that the director is Jon Favreau, whos biggest film to date is 'Elf', is an alarm bell, but I'm going to give the film the benefit of the doubt.

Set in modern times. In the original comic series, he was injured while in Vietnam, and built the suit to save his own life (the suit kept his heart going). I know the movie's origin is in Afganistan, not Vietnam, but I dunno if they're using the whole "life-saving suit" gimmick.

The original suit was very clunky looking and built on spare parts. Here's a shot of the original suit when done in the 1960's:

Aye, I've got that very comic (not an original mind you, a re-print), and I'm impressed with the relative closeness of the movie one you posted to the original suit. I was hoping they'd keep it in the same time period as the original Vietnam, but eh, sure make it Afghanistan. I'd consider it likely that it's a life saving suit if Afghanistan is involved.

Some people in the Air Force are pissed because Terrence Howard is being allowed to wear our new uniform in the movie before it's even being issued to the regular Air Force. The Air Force came out with a point paper the other day on the new uniform and this was one of the specific points. They excused it by pointing out the studio had to do their own tailoring of the uniform for the actors. Well OK, that makes it OK to show uniforms in movies before folks in the service can actually buy them.

So let's see. Growing up I read comics religiously. Definately a Marvels guy (screw DC Comics!!!). X-Men, Amazing Spider Man, Avengers, and Iron Man were the main ones I read.

Iron Man is right up there with story-line development with Spider Man and just as easy to screw up (Spider Man 3 did nothing for the series). However, if done right, Iron Man can easily be the best movie adaptation yet of a Marvel Comic book.

Watched Iron Man on a screening last night.

Amazing movie. Simply great. On par with the original Spider-Man and Batman Begins as the best comic book movie ever.

Oh, and for those who like the comic: Stay for the credits. There's a scene at the end of the credits that's freakin' FANTASTIC.

cool, very much looking forward to it. The wife has already said our Saturday evening is reserved for it. Thanks for the headsup about the credits, we'll make sure to stay... :)

For whatever reason -- and I really can't explain why exactly -- I think I've been looking forward to this movie more than any I can recall in quite a long time. And by long time I mean like a decade or more, not six months.

Of course that means that there's a pretty good chance I'll end up feeling let down after I've seen it, but ... what can ya do?

Here's my review from the Last movie you watched thread.

Iron Man - 9/10

Iron Man opened today here in the Philippines (Apr 30). Great movie. Downey Jr. had the role down pat. The CG was awesome. The dialogue was not as corny as you'd expect. It was great all around. The only thing I would hold against this movie was that the final fight scene was a bit underwhelming... but other than that, I went in with high expectations, and left the theater with those expectations met.

If anyone's planning on watching The Incredible Hulk, Downey Jr. appears in a cameo in the film.

Also, Iron Man is apparently meant to be a trilogy by Favreu.

Then, with the upcoming future Marvel releases (2010? 2011?) of Thor and Captain America, they're hoping to tie it all into an Avengers film, hence the Nick Fury referrence at the end of the Iron Man credits.

Essentially, Marvel has made a conscious move to have all their superhero movies exist in the same universe, which is cool.

IMHO, the movie is infinitely better than the comic right now. Maybe Invincible Iron Man will be better, but Iron Man hasn't been good since Queseda was on it and the armor was sentient.

just got back from watching it and wow, that was fun! Simply an awesome movie. I wanted to scream to people to stay and watch the dang credits, but they all kept going out until only mayb 7 or 8 persons were left. Special scene came, cool. :)

A lady behind us, obviously there because her husband said they were staying, simply said something like "that's all?" to which I could only reply "yup, that's all, but that's everything too". :)

You know, I only started reading comics about a year ago so this movie is in fact the first ever movie I really geeked out. To here that first agent say the long version of S.H.I.E.L.D. the first time and I knew what it meant, I laughed to myself. Never would I have caught it just a year ago. :)

I noticed that Raza, the bald Afghan warlord with a mad-on for Stark, kept playing with big ostentatious rings during his scenes. He also may have been left alive after he exits the plot. Foreshadowing for the Mandarin?

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. First I thought the sound wave weapon was lethal, but after Stark survived, you now have to assume that the weapon just stuns and does not kill.

It was explained as temporary paralysis...about 15 minutes worth.

Also got to see the preview for the new Hulk movie. I like Ed Norton, but I don't see it being much better. The CGI just doesn't work for me.

I gotta admit, this has to be the best adaptation of a comic book I have seen. Saw it on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that it had a better than average storyline. And when we were on the way back from the theatre, I had talked about cross over comic books in which characters could meet and how cool it would be if it happened in movies. Now I find out in this thread that it is gonna happen. Wow!

Although they had made superhero movies off and on over the years, it seems it is becoming it own genre today.
