View Full Version : The Role of Intelligence

This is a pretty vague question, but I'm curious what people think about value of intelligence outside the QB position. I generally pay no attention to Solecismic Test scores for other positions, and it struck me today (scouting for the eNFL draft) that I may be making a faulty assumption. Has anyone looked into this, or have hunches, anecdotes, or speculation to share? And even for QB's, I believe that is has been established that intelligence relates to the rate of learning formations. Is there any evidence that it does more than that? Any comments would be appreciated.

There is speculation (from another thread) that intelligence for O-Linemen can affect penalties in a mild way. There had been (unfounded?) speculation in the past that it may help development.
I do know that early on in my Draft Analyzer work I personally stopped trying to weight combine scores by position. I got burned too often by ignoring a combine score on a particular draftee, and I'm much more careful now about drafting a guy who has a low score in ANY area regardless of position.
