We are picking him up tonight, help me think of a name please...

Here is a pic of him and his sister...we are getting the one on the right, the orangish tabby looking one.

Vesuvius

You can shorten it any way you want to be cute, and it will fit as the cat is fiery colored and like all cats will randomly erupt and destroy everything around it.

I was wondering the same. We adopted brothers and it was great because they kept each other company when we were at work or out and 2 cats really aren't much more work than 1.

I'm liking Vesuvius, that one has potential.

I'm also liking the idea of an Irish name...any suggestions?

I was going to get both, but the sister is already adopted, when I contacted her I told her I'd love to take both of them.

I already have 2 dogs, and just posted a "free to good home" on Craig's List for the big one, he's just too big to have in a 3 br apt. :( It'll kill me to give him up, but I think it's the best thing for him.

He's a REALLY good dog...he can get hyper and rambunctious, but I think it's mostly because he's cooped up in here all day and can't ever just RUN like he needs to. He's really good with kids and with other pets...

Good luck - maybe if you give her "puppy dog eyes" she'll cave ;)

We adopted sisters and have always been very happy we didn't split them up. Of course when one of the pair is already adopted, there isn't much you can do.

Wade and I had an orange tabby in college. His name was O'Leary. Similar to the Vesuvius idea, but referencing the Great Chicago Fire. Unfortunately he died around the age of 2. I know have another orange tabby named OJ, which is short for O'Leary, Jr. It is also a reference, of course, to Orange Juice, so it works well. But you should not use that name because it was his. :) I like Vesuvius, or maybe Pompeii or perhaps Nero.

Getting back to the original question, I'm a fan of not naming a pet for a few days, until I get to know their personality. Even as kittens, I think some of their future personality shines through and then I pick a name at least partially based on that.

I agree. However, my other cat is named "Red" because he had a red color (his brother, who unfortunately is no longer with us, had a green color) when he was brought home and I never ended up giving him a permanent name. :)

This is how I proceeded with my cats. The grey one was always crying, so I named him Martin Luther. His sister used to do these wild acrobatics, so I named her Sufi.

I like to let my pets name themselves. I take three or four names that I like, write them on separate pieces of paper, crumple them up and toss them at the pet.......the one they start playing with/investigating/eating is the winner.

All of our cats have two names. The first names we picked out when we got them, but the second names seem to come from the cats themselves.

I think I stumbled across this ad a few days ago as I'm in the ATL and we were thinking of a playmate for our dog (yours is too big for us). We've had her for a few months and she can't get enough of the dog park. Our neighbors have outside dogs and sometimes she'll just sit at the fence and stare at them.

Anywho, as for a name:

OK, can we at least agree that if you do this and the cat looks at you and says "Nobody told me I was in competition. If there is competition, somebody better let me know. If there is competition, they better eliminate me out of the race and go ahead and do what they're going to do with me", then you'll go with Operation Shutdown?

Olie PLEASE do not put that poor dog in the shelter. He is way to pretty and I have seen how shelters can break a dog. Put ads out and take him to the local dog park with a sign on his back saying 'for adoption' If we didn't already have 4 dogs I would say I could take him. And for what its worth we had a German shephard in a 2 bedroom apartment....

Wow - some great ideas. I'm definitely waiting a couple days to make a final decision. He's really really cute, and very playful...he meows alot, this really scratchy pathetic kitten meow...not sure if that will factor in or not. He's also very frisky and playful.

He's not a Vesuvius, I can tell that already. His hair is pretty long so he's not a very "masculine" looking cat, he's very pretty. I've always thought the name Gus was cute, like the mouse in Cinderella...you know, GusGus...so right now that is the lead contender. I'm definitely considering Guinness though, that is a good one. Though I don't drink Guinness so I'm not sure it'S

As for Oliecat...my screen name is actually taken from our current cat, Olie, aka Oliegirl, aka Rolie Polie Olie...those of you with kids will know that is a TV show on the Disney Channel...my son was 3 when he got his cat and I let him have full naming rights :)

Yes, similar experience here. Also ours climbed a power pole as a young kitten and spent the night laying on the TV cable. If he chose a different wire, he truly would have earned the name, although I fear it would have been posthumously.
