.. and then puts it in the Official Playstation Magazine.
I thought about putting a witty title for this thread, but the truth is just too bizarre to not put in...

meh, I'd eat out of a goat's stomach to have topless girls feed me grapes.

Killing a goat to generate interest in a game...stupid.
Topless girls used to generate interest in a game...brilliant.

I guess Jim will need to use some other methodology to promote TCY2.

One of the more disgusting things I've seen considering the context. Makes me wonder just how depraved people can get...never mind...I don't really want to know.

It amazes me that this idea made its way all the way through multiple meetings and nobody shot it down as being over the line.

And then, days/weeks later, they decided to put in the MAGAZINE! (although that's subcontracted ut to another company)

I'm just stunned that this idea didn't get shot down at some point along the way.

Someone should have cut that idea off at the head.

That's just about the most awful thing I've ever heard to sell something from a reputable company.

Maybe they left out the part where they later cooked cabrito on the George Foreman Grill made out of a PS3.

I'm not a big animal lover, but that's fucking ridiculous. I really really hope Sony takes a huge PR hit over this. Dumbasses.

One of the more vile promotions I've ever heard about. I'm no animal rights wacko, but killing an animal simply to promote a video game is inexcusable.
*I'm almost expecting someone to come out with news that it was all a hoax*
Sony has now apologized. After the publicity I guess.

In its mea culpa, Sony said: "We recognize that the use of a dead goat was in poor taste and fell below the high standards of conduct we set ourselves."
The company said it has launched an internal inquiry into the circumstances of the event and that it will put measures in place to make sure it does not happen again.
Typical PR flak BS. How can they launch an "internal inquiry" when it was an internal process that came up with this? There is a book in the Business section of the bookstore/library that has scripted PR/Spokesperson/Executive responses to many events that come up, both to the public and to employees.

just because it's an animal doesn't mean all you sissies have to get your nipples all twisted. it was a goat. not a small child. who cares. since when is it so wrong to senselessly kill a goat? i think people these days are just pre-programmed to react to certain buzz words. faggot. racial slurs. killing of animals. these all evoke the same reaction from the public. like people go "oh, i'm supposed to be offended by this. i'm supposed to be outraged by this".
poppycock.

No, thats for the release of the new Harvest Moon game for the Wii. You'd be amazed at what you can do with a Wii remote in that game.

I haven't read the thread yet, but this is the best thread title I've seen in a loooooooong time.

Ok, I've read the thread, and that's about as crazy as you can get.
Looking forward to a decent parody thread.

Does anyone know if the goat was killed on stage?
The article says "freshly slaughtered", does this mean the goat was alive and walked onto the stage, and then had its throat cut infron of the audience, or was the goat killed backstage, where no one could see it?
Displaying a dead goat on stage may be questionable act, but actually killing an animal on stage for the enjoyment of the audience would be crazy.

I'm no Sony apologist, but I got the impression that they simply had a butcher kill a goat, and displayed the dead carcass on stage. I'm assuming that the meat was likely still used as it would normally have been. I don't think it's quite as bad as the thread title makes it out to be.

To be more authentic, they should have slit the goat's throat onstage.
Honestly, this isn't something to be all that worked up about. I imagine the goat meat will still be used for normal purposes after this and besides, goats are slaughtered commercially every day.
Unless there's going to be a mass explosion of vegetarianism, outcry against this does seem slightly hypocritical.

They did not kill the goat on the stage. It sounds like they got it from a butcher. How many actually read the article, rather than just the title?

I bet Cattle Decapitation will be all over this one.

An alternate theory is that with the rise of the information age, dramatically higher numbers of people are becoming educated about why bigotry and senseless violence are bad things, the media coverage of which generates "buh-buh-but political correctness sucks!" posts from those on whom education is lost.

Political Correctness does suck. Sensitivity and understanding towards things outside your personal realm of experience does not. I think there is a strong difference.

Possibly. The UK sales figures must be pretty scary for Sony.
One of the UK's big video game chain stores has recently cut $50 from the price of the PS3 to shift units, and it looks like other stores are following their lead, some cutting prices and throwing in an HDMI cable.
The PS3 will not start moving in the UK until they cut another $200 off the price tag.

What's so wrong about slitting a goat's throat? Goat stew's the best thing to go with a pitcher of beer.

Good for Sony. The goat would of killed them if given the chance. Effin goats.
