I think keyshawn is going to take the millions he's made and go home and cry now.

He was playing the whole "it'll be great to have a replacement for me in two years or so, plus I'll teach him how to be a good pro" angle throughout the draft commentary. Didn't seem like this would surprise him, but he definitely wanted to stick around.

Maybe the Pats will sign him. I heard they need some help in the receiver department.

Yeah after hearing him say all of that about Jarrett, he probably had an idea it was coming. He did it on purpose, using the media as a tool for himself. I mean, they paid him the roster bonus and sent him on his way, it's not as if they're trying to paint him as some sort of pariah, since his whole debacle with the Bucs, he's been on the decline..but hasn't been a clubhouse problem.

Or has he? I guess we'll find out. Wonder where he'll land.

Wasn't it Andy Reid who said during the draft he'd love to have Keyshawn catching passes for them (then getting calls of "tampering! tampering!")?

Come on now. If you are going to have a kickass thread title like that then you absolutely HAVE to deliver.

Disappointed.

Depending on what Keyshawn's willing to sign for, I think he's still a decent pickup for some team as a posession receiver/decent blocker. Eagles, Bears?

Johnson turns down Titans, will retire

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

Keyshawn Johnson has declined an offer from the Tennessee Titans and has decided to retire.
The wide receiver, who also expected to receive an offer from the Oakland Raiders, is expected to announce his decision at a Wednesday afternoon news conference at his alma mater of USC, his agent, Jerome Stanley, told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Sources told ESPN.com's Michael Smith that Johnson will pursue a career in television.

"The timing of it was just right," Stanley said. "There were a couple of slots open in broadcasting. He was either going to retire this year or next year, but the timing just turned out to be right now."

Johnson, who turns 35 in July, was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this month after the Panthers drafted Southern California wideout Dwayne Jarrett. He had 70 catches for 815 yards and four touchdowns for Carolina in 2006.

Johnson, the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NFL draft, has started 162 of 167 games in his 11 NFL seasons that spans stints with Carolina, Dallas, Tampa Bay and the New York Jets. He retires with 814 career receptions for 10,571 yards and has 64 touchdowns.
He worked as an analyst on ESPN's televised coverage of the the NFL draft last month.

ESPN.com senior writers Michael Smith and John Clayton and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

He screwed himself like usual by opening his big mouth and spouting off - once he said what he wasn't going to play for a bunch of teams knew they were out of his range and he destroyed his market. I'd say the Titans were probably the only team genuinely interested in giving him anything near what he wanted, and it seems even they came up short.

hell, he'll make a better broadcaster than irvin. with him and barber going into the box, things are at least looking up on that side of things.

i'd love to see one of them get a shot at doing color-commentary instead of just being a studio-guy. bring some more insight into the games.

The guy played 11 seasons of pro football, won a Super Bowl in his prime, was a starter everywhere he played and went through it relatively injury free. What more can one ask?

I think he'll be a pretty good commentator. While he was an ass from time to time, getting bounced pretty much everywhere he went, I always appreciated the effort he did on the field. I would have taken him on the Steelers, cause he was a good blocker, and had relatively good hands.

Anyone remember when he was on Coach? When Coach took over the expansion team, Keyshawn asked him not to draft him and then the owner traded the pick for something non-football related (I believe). :)

Anyway, he'll be better in the booth than on the field at this point in his career.

Apparently the Titans offered 8 million over 2 years and he wanted 12 million over 2 so he opted to retire.

Makes sense to me, if there's an offer out there that probably wont be there next year.

Key had a very solid career. Not spectacular, just damn solid. Great blocking WR in his prime as well, a very overlooked part of his game.

I'm willing to bet that he is still making at minimum 10x what you make in a year with ESPN. And he has a Super Bowl ring and probably gets a shitload of fine ass women in the bargain. Not sure what is so funny really.

I don't get the Keyshawn hatred either. He always played really hard and never disrespected the game like TO or Moss, but he seems to be hated even more in some circles.

I was at a USC-Stanford game down at the LA Coliseum, and Keyshawn caught a late TD pass to win for SC. Bastard. I've always liked him after that, though. That Stanford beating sonofabitch!

Maybe, maybe not... but I think he rally busted his ass on the field. So many times on 20+ yard runs, it was Keyshawn blocking down on someone that sprung whatever back it happened to be an additional 10-15 yards. He was a rock solid player. Might have been a jackass, but he had the heart of a real champion on-field.

I don't argue that. But you asked why people didn't like him. They don't like him because he is an ass off the field (and often on the sidelines). It makes sense.
