Months after a politically embarrassing $1 billion shortfall that put veterans' health care in peril, Veterans Affairs officials involved in the foul-up got hefty bonuses ranging up to $33,000.

The bonuses were awarded even after government investigators had determined the VA repeatedly miscalculated — if not deliberately misled taxpayers — with questionable methods used to justify Bush administration cuts to health care amid a burgeoning Iraq war.

I have to ask at this point - are there any honest professionals doing jobs in the Bush Administration?

The janitors for the oval office?

And man I've got to apply for a job there. No matter hwo badly you screw up, at least you can say that you didn't lose a billion dollars, then get rewarded for it.

Of course they got bonuses, they did exactly what the White House wanted them to do: provide political cover for the tax cuts. People that would lie to congress in order to sacrifice care for war veterans for tax cuts to the wealthy don't just grow on trees. You have to keep those people around.

Same reason the White House isn't demanding Gonzalez resign. He did what they told him to do.
