View Full Version : Formation Analyzer Utility for FOF07?

Someone had written a utility for FOF04 that could analyze the formation use by a team and tell you what formations worked well for your particular squad and what formations didn't. It was even broken down by running plays and passing plays and had a section for defensive coverage analysis.
It was a great tool to help you analyze and adjust your gameplan. Unfortunately, I no longer have it on my computer so I can't give credit to the guy who coded it, but I know it didn't work with FOF07. I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that FOF04 would output a separate log and box file for each game and FOF07 no longer does this.
Are there any utilities for FOF07 that offer something similar?

That was me. I hope to bring back something similar, but I'm waiting for Celeval to finish his hard work cracking the Solevision files. Once he does that, there's a lot we'll be able to do, both in supporting gameplanning as well as generating stats to help answer questions people raise.

Any new info on this Greg? I really enjoyed the first version, would love to see one for 2k7.

The funny thing is that Greg and Celeval live like five minutes from each other. I say we all chip in and pay albion (who also lives very close to those guys) to watch and entertain the kids for both families for one weekend so Greg and Kevin can get together and get this Solevision thing knocked out. :D

This is a damn good idea :)

Hells yeah it's a good idea! Any utility to help gameplanning would be awesome. I think that the world, or our little corner of it, needs an open source football management sim. With all the smart ass math nerds we have playing this game, and programmering types, and with the amount of hours people like Greg put into making extras for this game I believe the community could really make something extraordinary. Of course I'm only a medium math nerd and my programmerizing skills are zero so I could be missing some major obstacle to a project like that. But the idea of making games open source so that the community can feed it's own desire for evolution of the product is the true future of gaming, as evidenced by the success of games that have already done it.

Celeval sent me a key chunk a while ago, which I lost. I don't have his updates that have actually mapped out how to interpret each line into an actual play. primelord has this as well, but embedded in his reputedly hacked-up hard-to-read code ;-) primelord was allegedly working on a utility like this (he was generating a database that you could query for this info), and Celeval is reportedly working on a viewer, so if either of those come out you won't need mine. Or I'll get this data from them and find time to do my own work with it. I'd really like to get these into the DBUpdater tables, for example.

I'd estimate that the utility is now about 73% done. With any luck it could be completed by the time Jim releases FOF2k12
