I'm reaching out to the community for some great PC games that will run on Vista other than sport text sims.

A nice member sent me Fallout 2, but it doesn't run very well on my pc. (I'm still lurking around some sites to see if I can get it to look better) :( Can't wait until Fallout 3 comes out, if it ever does.

I'm open to most anything, but would prefer something along the lines of Fallout (turn based strategy).

So what do some of you play when you're not playing FOF or another text sim?

Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, or Civ 4.

I have no idea if it will run on Vista, but for turn based strategy that is similar to Fallout in some ways, I like Jagged Alliance 2.

If not FM, it's Civ4 for me too...

In the last five years or so, Civ4 and Empire Earth have been the only games that aren't text sims that have managed to stay on my hard drive for more than a month or so.

Here are some strategy games you can try out:

Out of that group, Battle for Wesnoth (http://www.wesnoth.org/home) is a very good turned based game and it is free.

Or if you want to stay in the realm of roleplaying games with a turn based element, try out this company. The graphics may be outdated, but the games are deep. Try out their long demos to see what I mean:

Outside of that, I am a sucker for good commercial roleplaying or adventure games. Oblivion, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, Dreamfall, The Longest Journey, Neverwinter Nights (still haven't played the second one, but I hear it is great).

Ooh and don't forget Space Rangers 2. Very good game and you can get it cheap here (http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=SR2). This is mostly space combat/simulation/ship building/mission based game.

I heard this game called Maximum Football is pretty cool. :)

Lots of great suggestions, very much appreciated!

I've played Oblivion, Space Rangers 2, and Civ 3.

I've written down Jagged Alliance 2, NN 2, and I'm going to check out the links Antmeister posted.

I've played COD and COD 2 and I'm not leaning towards a war game - although I might check out the new C&C.

Really appreciate all the help!

Looks like JA 2 came out in 1999? Wonder if it will run fine on Vista?

Edit: Doh! EF said he didn't know.

Didn't know there were other games besides sports sims.

I second this as a great game ...

If you decide to give it a whirl then you might bump into me - I play online a fair bit, normally am either tagged as 'Wiz' or 'Vet' ... depending on my mood (and whether one of them is taken already).

Yeah, I'm going to check this one out.

if you havnt given Civ4 and its expansion some of your time you're doing yourself a disservice. You may also want to check out some of the huge mods for it....I am thoroughly enjoying "Total Realism" for it on my new DELL XPS M1710 lappy :)

Not sure if it will run on Vista, but check out Dominions III. It's expensive, but it's got a lot of depth.

I've taken a look at the Geneforge and Avernum games a few times, but never ordered. I tried the original Geneforge demo once, but didn't get very far. Which of spiderweb software's games would you recommend for those interested in these old school RPGs?

Remember The Bard's Tale? I loved that series as well as Might and Magic to some extent.

I would love to get a PBEM or FOFC online game of this going...

If you like FPS, Battlefield 2 is awesome. You can pick up the game for ~$40 that includes the one major expansion pack and 2 booster packs on one DVD.

I second Company of Heroes as well.

I ordered it last Friday and should be getting it soon. I'd be in for a FOFC game, I've always played the first two single player only.

Thanks, I might check that out.. although I'm looking more for an RPG style game like Fallout or something similar. I've heard company of heroes is excellent - just kind of burnt on war games after playing the COD series.

i just found my jagged alliance 2 cds. I'm gonna reload it tonight.

I tried playing it twice and found it really hard to play. I grasp the concept (turn based) but it's just really difficult.

Didn't somebody make a JA 2 add on within the last 2 years?

Don't forget to patch it--the game's up to patch 3.08 now.

I also picked up Jagged Alliance 2 Gold and Wildfire cheap, based on the recommendations above--I'll have to give these a whirl.
