Linebackers

Excuse my ignorance guys but I'm a Brit newbie so bear with me.....

I love the linebacker position but am a little confused with the positions listed in the game.

At what positions do the various types of linebacker play?

I worked out MLB for myself!!! and SILB/WILB I'm okay with but wot about the rest?

Where do they play in a 4-3 or a 3-4 defence?

In a 4-3 defense:

WLB MLB SLB
RDE RDT LDT LDE
----------------
LT LG C RG RT TE
QB

In a 3-4 defense:

WOLB WILB SILB SOLB
RDE NT LDE
----------------
LT LG C RG RT TE
QB

Adding onto what Mark said - when the TE is on the opposite site of the offense, then the WLB and SLB swap.

With this game in mind, I thought the left side was always the strong side. I figured this due to the fact that more runs go left than right. Therefore the SLB is always lined up over the LT side. Just something to bare in mind when considering match up strengths and weaknesses in detail.

It's not - the game will call strong side-right and strong-side left plays.

So what is the difference between the SILB and WILB? I know I want a pass rusher at WLB and a better pass defender at SLB, but does the same go for the inside backers? Question mark?
