I don't agree with full blown isolationism, but I can't help think this money could have been spent rebuilding New Orleans; funding police departments; the education system etc. I know this is probably some narrow thinking, but I can’t help but think of projects like this when I hear another story about inadequate funding for the levee in New Orleans, or decreased law enforcement funding. Every time I read another “where are we going to get the money” article I can’t help but think of projects like this.
Fast forward 10 years from now and I can’t help but think of some radical group holed up in this thing.

Shit, they knew they wanted to rebuild Iraq from the start. They had to be shamed into wanting to rebuild New Orleans.

The cost of the embassy represents about one tenth of one percent of the total cost of the Iraq experiment. It's hardly worth getting upset about.

Want to get really upset? Look up the various stories on the billions of reconstruction dollars that were lost in the early days of the "reconstruction".

Yes, those accounts are disturbing. It is the cynic in me that can't help but laugh at the lengths of the government to account for every penny that you may or may not owe them, but then a "pallet" of money "disappears" under their watch. Logically I know these things are totally unrelated, but it is still distubing nonetheless.
