Is there anything you can do to reduce the number of drops and fumbles by certain players, or are they just innate qualities that you have to live with?

DROPS
"Avoid Drops" is a visible rating for all eligible receivers. Longer passes are dropped more often than shorter ones. Drops can be reduced across the board by throwing shorter passes, or by taking measures to avoid throwing to guys who drop the ball a lot. You can't really reduce an individual player's penchant for dropping passes, though. In other words, if your #1 TE has a low Avoid Drops rating, you can do one of the following things to manage that:

1. Replace him with someone else in passing situations.
2. Keep him in to block very often.
3. Throw deeper routes. The TE won't get as many targets that way. (This won't work, however, if your QB and WRs aren't talented in the key areas for a vertical passing game.)
4. Throw shorter routes.

In short, either don't throw the ball to him, or throw shorter passes to him.

Avoid Fumbles is a hidden rating in FOF2K7. If you observe a particular player fumbling a lot consistently, odds are pretty good that he's poorly rated in that, and will continue to fumble a lot throughout his career. I know of no way to manage this besides trading or cutting him.

thanks, Sky Dog. that's a big help. I've already been gravitating towards shorter routes, especially with my butterfingers Bills team.
