The 2006/2007 season is just about finished (waiting on just La Liga, basically). I thought before we kick off talk about 2007/2008 it might be interestingto just get a feel for who's following whom around here. I'll keep an updated list in the second post.

It's my home town, and I was able to catch a couple of games on TV when I was there on business three weeks ago (including their first goal/win against the Fire). Really hope the fans there can maintain the enthusiasm they've shown thus far.

I enjoy watching the MLS, but don't have a team, really. I used to back the old NY/NJ Metrostars, but then didn't follow MLS for a while and then I was in Atlanta, with the nearest team about an 8 hour drive from me (DC United). Since I liked the Metros and love Bruce Arena, I should be a big RedBulls fan, but those bastards took NJ out of their name, and that's a pet peeve of mine (NY teams playing in NJ, and pretending they are playing in NY  )

With the EPL I would say I'm following the league, while I'm more following my team in the MLS. But I do go to most Red Bull games and I think overall the (long-term) future is bright for soccer in the US. I want to see it succeed, so I think i need to be one of the people supporting it now to help make that happen.
Plus it's nice to have something to follow this summer.

It is without a doubt a New York City area school, so the press coverage makes sense. They were all over the NYC papers when they were winning big, whereas there wouldnt be 2 lines of text 2 years earlier.
They school cant control the media, but you certainly have no claim at all that the school has pretended to be in NY.

Yeah, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously at all. It was actually more a reference to a mini-brouhaha that took place in some thread back in football season, where I said something like "I lived in NYC for three years, and never once remember seeing anything Rutgers in the newspapers or on tv," and all the Rutgers people jumped up and insisted it was a NYC-metro school. But really, I don't care - I swear..

I blame the movie Goal!
Here are some of my favorites--although I'm by no means a diehard fan of any.
MLS: Chicago Fire (though I haven't paid much attention since Bradley and Nowak left)
La Liga : Real Madrid (when my 8th grade Spanish teacher explained it's pronounced ree-AL and it means "royal" I thought that was the coolest thing ever)
Serie A : AC Milan (Maldinis' fault -- plus I liked the uni's when I was a kid)
Bundesliga : Bayern Munich (Lothar Matthaus' fault)
Eredivisie : Ajax (de Boers' fault)
EPL : Can't figure it out. I rooted against England internationally as a kid (a damned rebel colonist I was) so I never give much thought to the EPL.
I found myself rooting for West Ham and the end of this season, but for the life of me, I don't really like any of the teams well enough to root for them. There are many I have eliminated from consideration, though.
The Big 4 (Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal) -- can't do it -- too big of a bandwagon
Still feels like too much a bandwagon jump -- Spurs, Everton, Fulham (due to the Americans)
The Little 6 (recent pro/demotees--Charlton, Sheffield U, Watford, Birmingham City, Sunderland, Derby County) -- meh, no thanks -- although I might re-consider Sunderland (keen on Keane?)
Can't stand 'em -- Man City, Portsmouth, Man City, Newcastle, Man City, oh and Man City.
Can't watch 'em -- Bolton, Blackburn, Villa
What am I left with? Reading, Middlesbourgh, West Ham, and Wigan. Uninspiring choices to say the least. I wish I would've picked one as a kid like I did for the other leagues.

Manchester United since I'm a Buccaneer fan but Hull is a close second and I'm still partial to Clachnacuddin F.C. This was my first team I've ever played. I played them in 1-nil back in the day. Ajax is close, since the first city I ever visited that had an European football club was Amsterdam. In the grand scheme though, I'm a Tampa Bay Rowdies fan even though they no longer exist. :(
They really were my first sports love, before there were Buccaneers and Lightning ect. The Rowdies were and always will be a kick in the grass and the reason I'm a sports fan. Oh, and yes, I did get to meet the Rowdies on several occasions. I've never met a more accessible sports franchise.
Tampa Bay Rowdies (http://www.tampabayrowdies.com/)
to hear the classic kick in the grass song and to get an idea what I'm talking about.

England:
Premiership: Man Utd
Div One: Rochdale (the only league team who have never either been relegated or promoted - always in the middle of the lowest English league and an antidote to my Man Utd hubris :) )
Australian A-League: Perth Glory (ditto  )
International: England and Australia (in that order)
Update : having moved a few months ago from Western Australia to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast I've taken up with the new A-League expansion team Gold Coast Utd. There's still a little tug of the heart strings when Gold Coast play Perth Glory but I'm slowly overcoming it.
The Socceroos could face England in the last 16 of the World Cup if they can take second place in their group (and England finish 1st in theirs) and that could prove to be a win-win problem which I would enjoy facing.
Oh, and Rochdale are currently top of their league (which is League Two not One as included above). Could they be about to break their record as the only team never to be promoted or relegated from their division?

After my honeymoon to Italy in October, and we saw a Fiorentina game (their only home loss of the season so far to Napoli), I've been heavily following them.
EPL: Everton - really all because of Tim Howard. Their game this weekend was phenomenal if anybody caught it (vs. Tottenham)
