I get this forwarded to me.
http://windsofchange.net/archives/003102.html
Summary:
The Maine National Guard Family Assistance Center has received about 30 complaints from children of deployed soldiers concerning harassment by
school officials. Most of these kids are between 7 and 9 years old.
The harassment? Principals, teachers and guidance counselors are telling these kids that their mother or father is a bad person for taking part in the confrontation with Iraq.
The officers report that such incidents are relatively few in number but that they've occurred in practically every region of the state.

People are idots. I had adults harass(sp) me in high school because my dad got some award from the local NAACP (he's white).
Its not just liberals who harass people. There are dumbasses everywhere.

That is just plain mean, and unacceptable.

As someone who is against the war, I find this behavior deplorable.

I show a lot of sympathy for the first guy and the second guy. It's unacceptable, let's not forget that the NAACP are more liberal than the Democrats, the M.A.D.D. and the Socialists. Whats next, are they gonna kick someone out of school for just simply praying ?

That's potential life-long damage there. Those people should lose their jobs immediately. They are there for the children, not to belittle them because of their parents. It shouldn't matter if a child's father is the biggest mobster or dope dealer in the country, they still have no right to belittle the child for it. The child has enough to deal with as it is, now they have to worry about what the teachers are going to say to them in school.
Sorry, that article just really got under my skin. It's different for kids to be doing it, not that it's right, but kids teasing kids is something that happens. Hell, if it was Bin Laden's kid in school he shouldn't have to hear constant ridicule from the teachers. As long as the child has done nothing to be punished for they should be left to learn and reap the benefits of the school. Even if the child has done something wrong, they should then only be punished for that, not for something out of their control.
They should all be proud anyway. Their parents are standing up for the country and what it stands for.
Please read the article and tell me "What" are you upset about?
The headline is great "Tabloid" journalism. The article itself is filled with incoherent rantings with absolutely no proof. Not a single quote from anyone that makes any point given the articles headlines.
Getting past the "Imagine what" then the "Now, imagine this" there is no substance. The direct quotes are either taken completely out of context or missing(ex....) the context all together.
Lastly, blasting the administration for standing behind their teachers will not when you any symphany here. The article seemed almost offended that the administrator was taking the sides of the teachers and not just "rushing to judgement"
Something tells me that if you turn the page over you would find the seal of the Bush Press on the back.
Here is an example of one of the few direct quotes:
---It gets worse...
"LTC John Mosher: "Soldiers follow our instructions to coordinate with schools to let them know they will be leaving, that their child should be monitored and to keep an eye on 'em."---
OK, is this for or against the teachers? Exactly what does this mean? Pro or Con to this arguement? How does this statement fit into the story?

I just interviewed the reporter who broke this story. He doesn't work for the Bush administration. He works for the CBS affiliate in Bangor.
The MNG says they have names, dates, and school districts of twelve incidents where this has taken place. The National Guard hasn't talked with all parents... but at least twelve have reported the harrassment.
The quote from LTC John Mosher is in regards to teachers harrassing the National Guard members when they come in to talk with teachers about their child. Teachers are saying things like "So what. You joined the Guard, you deal with the consequences."
This is just flat out wrong.

Disgusting, if we're getting the whole story.
But I have to agree with Taur that we're getting this story with a heavy slant.

Assuming that the allegations are true, that is disgusting. Shouldn't teachers leave their beliefs at the door so that this sort of thing can be avoided.
