View Full Version : Poll: Chrysler Sebring: Chick Car?

So after looking for a new(ish) car for a while, I'm currently driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring Limited, fully loaded with the myGig system, DVD navigation, heated seats, heated/chilled cupholder(!), sunroof, blah blah blah.
My only concern is that the older Sebrings definitely had the reputation of a chick car (well, that and Michael Scott from The Office drives one). This isn't one of the older models, but the new redesign. It's also not a convertible, which makes it look less feminine in my opinion.
Anyway, thought I'd start a poll to see if y'all thought the new Sebrings still look... well, chicky.

Chick car, no, only Ford makes real chick cars anymore.
(I am looking at you, Ford Focus drivers.)
I think of it as a gender neutral car, but I also think of it as an older person's (say, 50+ years old) car, bought by someome whose Dodge Dart finally gave up the ghost after 375,000 miles.

I think so. I also used to have an Audi A4 (still my favorite car) and was saddened to see that it's a chick car as well. Don't take it so hard :)

I have honestly never seen anyone but woman and old men (I mean like 70+) drive that car.

Well, I suppose I do look older than I am... but at least my man-boobs have disappeared with my weight loss.

it's gender neutral with appeal towards the older crowd. i didn't ever think people actively pursued purchasing these cars, i thought they were mainly found in car rental centers.

It's funny you posted this thread...I saw a guy driving a Mini Cooper convertible today and it got me thinking about cars men shouldn't drive, and I thought - I should post a thread on that...then POOF! I logon and here is almost the same thread :)

Sebring chick car?
I drive a Miata one of the best known chick type cars out there. No I'm not and yes I'm a guy.
And really I don't give a crap what people think about me.
So grow a sack and drive what you want. :D

I drive a minivan, so I'm certainly not in a position to pass judgement.

still deciding, but so far I really like the way it drives. It has all of the options that I'm looking for in a car, and the price tag fits.
The only drawbacks to the one I'm driving is that it has the 3.5 liter V6, which means the gas mileage isn't that great (but the accelaration and handling are nice) and the Limited model has this wood trim and accents which I'm not thrilled with. But if I go down to the Touring model to lose the wood trim I also lose the option of the leather seats.

I've rented a convertible Sebring twice on vacations.
The only true chick car that has been scientifically verified is the Cabriolet.

You must avoid wood trim at all costs, even if it means driving a car whose seats are covered with rayon.

Definitely makes me think of an age bracket, not gender specific.

The rental agency seems to give me one of these every other week, so I've probably driven a Sebring for about half the year so far. In my opinion, with the new styling it's less a chick car then it used to be, but it's definitely not manly, so I'd put it at about neutral.
I'd offer more commentary on it, but I'm driving the base model, and it sounds like you're thinking of buying the more upscale model, so there's probably enough difference to make my opinion on the way the car drives pretty invalid.

The only "Chic" car I know of, is the Mazda Miata. I believe it was voted best girlfriend car of it's generation.

Sure it's a little fem, but nothing that some flames and a chain steering wheel couldn't fix.
btw- Where do you put the gun rack?

I'm sorry but the Cabriolet cannot be on the gaylist. I have never EVER seen a man - gay or not - driving one. Did I say EVER?

I've never considered it a chick car, more gender neutral.
When I think of Ford Focus, I think of dipshits who sink a lot of money into upgrading it to make up for the fact that they bought a piece of shit.
And I think, dude, just man up and buy a real car.

I drive an 01 Sebring. 75K miles and I've had nothing but scheduled maintenance. My one complaint is that it has some pretty big blind spots.

When you carry concealed you don't NEED a gun rack. :p

The one thing I remember about the convertible that was annoying is that the visor on the driver's side literally did not fit with the rearview mirror when you pulled it down. I had to detach the one side, swing it under the mirror, and reattach it, or else it just hit the mirror. Bizarre design, and I'm not sure if it was restricted to the convertible or not.

Not a chick car. The Sebring is more of a middle-aged to elderly person's car.
When I think chick car, I think Cavalier, Sunfire, Beetle, not necessarily Sebring.

Now that you mention it, I find this true of all the Chrysler/Dodges the rental agency gives me each week. The A piller in particular is usually pretty bad. One week they didn't have any mid-size cars so they gave me a Jeep Commander and O MY GOD, you could have a Hummer on the other side of the A piller and you'd never see it.

I checked out the G35 and realized that I could get a lot more of the options that I wanted for less money with the Sebring.
Honestly, I haven't used the visor yet because the front windshield is low enough that I've not yet needed it. The Toyota Matrix visor was the same way however, so if it's a problem with the Sebring, I'm already used to it.
I did end up buying the car today. I'll sacrifice some gas mileage, but it's a fun car to drive and I love all the features that the car has.

A couple of well placed NRA bumper stickers, and even a Mary Kay pink car is no longer a chick car.

So that's 1. I'll keep you posted if there are more sightings.

My ex-significant other tried to convince me to get a PT Cruiser when I was looking for a new car a few years ago. I bought a Saturn instead.
The Saturn people sent me a "birth certificate" and everything. It's like a little car-cult.

I don't even know what that is. If you want to suckle... just ask nicely :p
I also agree that Saturns are underrated. If I could have gotten away with a two-seater I would be driving a Saturn Sky right now.
