There you have it. Only two can join the big boys: Boston, New York, Oakland, San Francisco, St. Louis and Los Angeles.

Atlanta + Cincy.

I'd have to agree with gstelmack, Atlanta & Cincinnati from those choices.
Detroit would be my 3rd choice.

My two cents:

Reds
Tigers
Braves
Pirates

I don't see how you can put any of those teams over just the Braves' pitching staff. That's quite the rotation they have set up there.

Cincinnati seems a no brainer to me, Detroit second in a tough decision.

The other three after Cinci seem about equal. Pittsburgh's lineup is incredible, Atlanta's pitching staff is incredible + Hank Aaron, but I guess I'll rank Detroit second overall ahead of them for balance. I can't get past Cobb, Greenberg, Kaline and Denny McClain in their primes.

Why not settle it on the field? Quick double-elimination-type setup. Pair them up, then winners play winners for one spot. Losers play to send one team down. Loser of the winners game and winner of the losers game play for the second top division spot with the loser of that one joining the loser of the losers game in the second division.

Okay, so I did exactly this, but I did best of five series for all of the matchups.

Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh in the first round, and Detroit beat Atlanta.

Atlanta beat Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati cemented their place in the Premier League by beating Detroit.

That set up a rematch of the first round series with the winner moving to the Premier League.

The series went to five games, with each team blowing each other out every other game.

Game five was a thriller, including two rain delays of 28 and 66 minutes, with the Tigers eventually prevailing in the 10th inning on a Hank Greenberg RBI single. (This was a computer simmed game). Cincy and Detroit it is.
