AT 201 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THE TORNADO WAS LOCATED
NEAR MAPLEWOOD STATE PARK...OR 18 MILES NORTH OF FERGUS FALLS...
MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH.

Looks like they spotted another one, a little farther out.

This happens every year, so it isn't anything to get too excited about.
But it can turn very nasty in a hurry.
As far as I know none have touched down yet (they do not do much damage unless they do.)

No, I was just worried I might have to put my patio furniture away.

Well, just don't do what I did when there was a tornado warning in College Park in 2001. I said, "Oh, they never touch down around here, whatever" and promptly ignored it, and ended up in my vehicle IN the tornado, probably 500 yards max at the time from the 2 girls in their car who were the only fatalaties in the tornado.

I learned my lesson in my first and only tornado.

On a related note, landing at O'Hare was a real treat today.

Hope everything goes well. I'm glad I didn't plan a trip to Minneapolis this week.

I'm leaving out of O'Hare tonight. We've got a wind advisory until midnight. Hopefully everything works out, but more importantly, hope all ends up okay with you, Surtt.

I'm not a trained pilot, but I'd imagine taking off will be easier than landing today.

It looks like all the heavy weather is passing north of us.
I am not worried for my self, but I hope everyone up there is ok.
My boss and a couple of co-workers live out that way.

We had a hellacious storm come through on Tuesday afternoon. Lexington got a bit of hail twice, but just to the west, in Versailles where I live, a funnel cloud was spotted (although it never touched down) and we got golf ball sized hail that covered the yard. My wife was out with the kids when it happened - they set off the sirens and she was freaking out as she drove home. She's still a bit unnerved by it.

Despite having lived in Florida so long and going through a number of tropical storms/hurricanes, we both have never seen as violent/severe weather as here. It's just not quite the same. I slept through Hurricane Andrew, but there were a couple of storms last summer/fall that made us awfully nervous.

When the wife and I were driving to Missouri for Memorial Day weekend, we saw a skinny, long funnel cloud just ahead of us in eastern Oklahoma. It kept reaching for the ground and then breaking up, probably did it at least three times before we drove past it, but the wife is a huge tornado-phobe and was still sure that we were about to die...

The storm moved on and everything cleared up.

We get a few tornado watches during a summer, but a warning where they blow the sirens is rare.
Typical, when the went off and you were suppose to get to cover, everyone went out into the streets to try to see the tornado.

NOAA is saying Oklahoma is going to have a "significant" weather event tonight due to temperatures in the 90's and tropical moisture. Should be an interesting night watching the NBA Finals since they will block half the screeen with weather updates.

Nothing will ever beat watching pretty much an entire NBA Finals game in split screen the night OJ and Cowlings went for a ride.

We've got a tornado watch here I think.

Well, that was a much better choice than having Rick Mitchell going crazy over severe weather (note: no tornado) in far western Oklahoma as happened in game one of the Suns-Spurs series.

Luckily, the cap held for much of the evening, so I got to watch the game with little interference. And I agree with you about Rick Mitchell being overdramatic about severe weather coverage. Actually, all three stations are bad about doing it.

I flew to Minneapolis yesterday. That was one nasty line of weather all the way from just northwest of Kansas City running to the upper part of Wisconsin. We usually go up around Chicago to get to Minni, but yesterday we had to go to the middle of Kansas before we could turn back to the north. The flight ended up being 3 hours, which is a personal best for Minni. The winds at the airport there were gusting up to 40 knots. Luckily it wasn't too much of a cross wind. We were very happy that we didn't need to find a hole to punch through that line and that instead we could go around.

Also, if I created a thread every time we had a tornado warning within 50 miles of here, they've overwhelm the parody threads ;)

They just reported one somewhat near the official FOFC house. Doesn't look like I'm in any danger yet.

I've been to Fergus Falls MN. They have the largest otter, or some crap like that.

Nice town. Went to a bad wedding.
