I'm looking for a few ideas for my daughter (in kindergarten) for a science project. Unfortunately she got the draw of being the veryu last kid int he class to go and we don't want to repeat any of the other projects so all of my original ideas are out.

I have a couple ideas but know there must be some others that I am missing.

One is the light bulb in the glass of water inside a microwave. Not sure if this is something that should be shown to a kindergarten class though.

Another is a trip to the zoo and going over some of the facts about some of the animals we see.

A third is a nature walk where we go out to a park and walk through some of the nature trails and go over some facts about the plants and flowers we see.

Another possible fallback might be inertia, maybe testing it with different types of material.

I would rather do something a little more interactive though.

Some of the early ideas are taken though (the baking soda volcano, the egg being sucked into a bottle, light refraction with a prism).

How bout this...i was thinking about this the other day. Is there a correlation between the number of Straw wrappers found in a car AND a persons weight which then could be expanded upon to check body fat %.

My hypothesis is that generally the straw wrappers come from fast food restaurants sugary drinks (strike 1), the odds that a person didnt order some greasy food is slim (no pun intended [strike 2]) and could be a sign of a sedentary lifestyle or one that involves a lot of driving/desk work.

might also be correlated to credit scores, more wrappers = lower credit scores.

Maybe too much for kindergarten but I think it could be something to look into.

maybe this is for a math fair though :)

I like these ideas, I think they could be very fruitful for a kindergarten-age child.

All you need is a Delorean and a flux capacitor. Instant A+ or in the case of Kindergarten, a super gold star.

And also, by the time she's done, you will be a much cooler dad somehow.

A final answer to her peers' greatest question? Which is the more consistent and ideal carrier for cooties, boys or girls?

Not sure what this does. Sounds like a good way to explode glass all over your microwave but I'm guessing I'm wrong on that account.

Also, what's a 5 year old doing with a science fair already? It's a cool idea but I thought it was for somewhat older kids.

SI

But, will he be able to handle the new found coolness?

The bulb lights up. I have heard that it may explode though if you keep it in too long so I don't think it's a good idea for a kindergarten class. I can see the line of pissed off parents now (of course one of the parents in the class is a super hot divorced single mom... ;) -- looks over shoulder waiting for the smack from the wife).
