Later this summer I am going to Cape Cod with some friends for a wedding. After the wedding, a group of us are staying in the Providence area for a couple days.

Any ideas on a cool day-trip/neat thing to do up there?

We are working on the theory that we will be beached out after the wedding on Cape Cod, so we are thinking of more inland type stuff.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

we're talking P-Town?

That place (and in general the whole Cape) is going to be PACKED in the summer. Be prepared. Honestly I've only been down to P-Town once or twice and I was much younger (don't really bother with the Cape now as I tend to go farther away for vacations), so I couldn't give you any specific suggestions for out there, although if you like people-watching there's sure to be lot of umm...colorful guys out there. And the good news is that your competition for ladies will be scarce.

Now if you're talking about coming in off the Cape (which is TBH ohh...3/4 of a day's drive from P-Town during the summer to get to Boston-area I'd say), I can offer a ton more suggestions for things to do/places to go/etc.

Depends on if the "Foxwoods" thing is more your style, or the "get tix to a Sox game at Fenway" thing, or the "stop @ plymouth plantation and check that out" type thing are more up your alley. more detail plz! LOL

Don't forget the Freedom Trail if you are into history and have never done it.

The Boston Aquarium is pretty cool, too.

Freedom Trail...The Constitution

Honestly I find the aquarium a bit of a POS at this point. You have likely been to better aquariums. This damm town, being right on the water and having the heritage we do really ought to have a much better aquarium. I mean how does ATL have multiple whale sharks and we have like...2 hammerheads and a few turtles?

Don't try to go up to Boston on the weekend, the traffic to/from the cape on weekends are HORRID.

The wedding is on a Thursday. We are leaving Cape Cod on Friday, in order to miss all that traffic (at least miss as much as we can). We will then spend the weekend in Boston or Providence.

Friday in the summer will be bad enough, but most traffic will be heading ON to the Cape, not off the cape. Just watch out by the bridges, that can be a pain in the ass.

good idea. at least you'll be going against traffic.

boston >>> providence for things to do, for sure. all providence has is a huge mall, the riverwalk, and strip clubs with more liberal "touching rules" than MA.
