I am going out to Denver to do some house hunting and will be meeting with a couple of different real estate brokers, spending a whole day with each. What I was wondering is when it comes to lunch should I be picking up the check or is that usually something the brokers do? I have never bought a home so the way things are done are pretty new to me when it comes to dealing with these guys, but I don't want opt come across as being clueless and picking the lunch when they always do it or vice a versa.

I haven't been in that situation before (going to lunch with a broker), but my experience so far is that brokers love to spend money on their clients in the form of gifts, etc. Remember, they are out to earn your business. I'd offer to split the bill, but I wouldn't be surprised if they insisted on paying for both of you.

broker should pay....if it even is a little awkward or you have to pay that is a bad bad sign.

Broker can write the lunch off much more easily than you can. Broker pays.

Thnaks for everyones' responses. That what I figured that he/she writes it off. I just wanted to check the etiquette of this situation anyways.

If he/she is a good/smart broker they will pay

You should probably pay, as the broker probably doesn't have the money to pay right now. We are picking them up out of the streets here, dead and starved to death.

I offered to help with the bill, but my broker picked up the tab. Chances are the broker will reach for it when it comes, so just offer to help out, but odds are again that they'll take care of it.

Last month when we were looking we offered to split, but the realtor paid.

The broker should pay and with this market he should blow you during dessert too.
