Picked up this Gem written by Cait Murphy a couple weeks back. It details the 1908 Baseball Season, which featured two of the best Pennant races in the history of the game.

1908 was of course the Season of the infamous "Merkle Boner" which cost the Giants the NL pennant and is covered heavily again in this book, but probably better than it has ever been covered in the dozens of stories and articles written before about it. This incident often overshadows the great AL pennant race as well, and Cait finally does it justice as well.

What makes this book such a great read for the Baseball fan is the level of research done by the Author. Despite all that has been written about Baseball in the early 20th Century, she still manages to dig up some Gems you won't find anywhere else. Not only does she do a great job setailing the actual Season, but she also paints a vivid image of what America was like in those days in general and in the Cities that were home to the Major League clubs.

She also has a very nice writing style, that makes the book an easy read while still drawing you in. A definite must if you are a Baseball fan and/or History buff.
