We currently have Adam's MMA game, Brian's pro basketball and pro football all in the works right now.
You guys should try it again if you haven't for a while. Lots of bug fixes and new additions after a few patches made it a fully new experience.

It's funny you mention that, I was deleting a bunch of old games off my harddrive just last night and was planning on checking on patches and mods for this game over the weekend. Of course, after reading Radii's latest dynasty of FBCB, I might be torn on which game to resurrect. :D

Three good leagues out there I know of:
www.fofc-bbcf.com (Cartman's league)
www.gridiron-glory.net (Mark Cooley's league, has over 100 ADs, is part of TotalSportsWorld)
www.theacfa.net (Fictional collegiate league, feeds into NFLSim, part of TotalSportsWorld)
GG is the biggest, and most immersive league, I've ever been in (I may be biased, due to the radio show Mark and I do). Cartman's league is also very well run, and have built up a great history as well. The ACFA is new, which means you can get in on the ground floor and start from scratch.

Is there a default/recommend for gameplans? I had the demo when it first came out but got busy and it timed out before I could do much with it.
I tend to enjoy building/maintaining a team rather than micromanage a gameplan.
st.cronin
07-11-2007, 04:52 PM
Yeah, I think there are three or four default gameplans for offense and defense. Plus there are 5 or 6 team philosophies to choose from - smash mouth, option, run n shoot, etc. So that gives you 15-20 stock gameplans to run.

In addition to the gameplan replies, there's also a "task list screen" that links you to each item you need to deal with each week. It's a nice way for new players to quickly learn what each week entails. There's also options to set any of 9 individual items to be run by the AI or even turn off completely things like academics.

You can install it on 2 PCs. However, you can "relicense". This means you unlicense it on one PC (through the control panel) and use that license on another. For instance, there are people that will unlicense their PC and license a family PC they use on vacation (and swap back after).
The goal here is to try to avoid multiple people using the same license. But, there are options for people that have 2-3 PCs (you just need to use the elicense control panel options).

I use the playbook and pick the plays. It makes the game much better and you can target a guy you want to throw it to. Also, it saves your playbook every year so you don't have to recreate it.

Okay, I ended up playing the demo until 1:30 this morning. It took a little while to get used to getting around, but that task list does help out tremendously.
And I have to admit that I like the recruiting at the end of the season rather than during. Because I can easily see how there would just be too much to do in a MP enviroment if you had to do that all year round. In fact, the game did not feel tedious at all. The emails give a wealth of information and they are just informal enough to feel real.
Very, very impressed with how far this came from the last demo I played moons ago, so I am either going to purchase it today or tomorrow.
Cartman, I hope you have a spot open in your league and that the season didn't start yet, because I think I may take over the Aztecs and take on the likes of st.cronin and Groundhog.

Is it the one that links from FOFC-BBCF's main page:
http://www.fofc-bbcf.com/downloads/BBCF-RealPack.exe
The one Anmeister linked has this:
It auto installs the following with a few clicks:
- Real NCAA team names, conferences, awards, rivals, etc database from Icy (pstats 1.6).
The database 1.6 includes the names/surnames mod from Skydog (thanks for your work).
That mod creates a list of USA names/surnames for more realistic spread of player names (based on the real USA census).
- Real logos from Icy (yahoo style)
- Real bowl logos from Inxay

I haven't played it for awhile, but I really played the hell out of it awhile back and I'm sure I'll go back once I get into college football mode.

It's a little tough given the game doesn't have I-AA teams and there's an odd number of teams. This makes it tough to get everyone the same number of games. For that reason, some will have 11 and some will have 12.

That's the thing. You don't have to lock into a recruiting pitch at the very beginning. Just choose "None selected" until you can get further details about the player later in the process. There may be 1 or 2 things that are most important to that player and if you can identify which is the most important early, you can boost the interest level for that player.

Yeah, there's two ways to go about it: You can either try to guess what pitch to use on week 1; or if you go "no pitch," and scout the player, you'll know his top 2 pitches in week 2, and have a 50-50 chance of guessing what's most important. I also think what pitch you use has an effect not just on recruiting, but on the player's happiness once he joins your team. For example, if you recruit a guy with a pitch of "playing time," and he gets redshirted, he's more likely to transfer than if you had recruited him with "chance to win" or something.

Mine either. I've won 3 games in my first two seasons with Wyoming. I can't believe I'm still around.

I gotta tell ya, im still having a very hard time getting hooked on this. I dont understand the whole recruiting pitch thing where youre locked into it once you start. Call me stupid but I am not understanding what Im supposed to do with the recruits.
The logic is setup to force this type of decision:
1. Take a stab early on without all your scouting info. You can use his list of interested schools and other information. It makes some sense if it's an out of reach prospect that you are on the cusp of. If you are correct, you get a big bonus that may sway him to sign. If you are wrong, you can just move on to someone else.
2. Wait for some information and make a more calculated attempt. Now, you get less of a bonus than option 1, but you have a higher chance at nailing it.
3. Wait until you get the email and all the info. Higher chance of success, but less of a bonus.

One quick question. I don't really mess with gameplan, I want my coaches to do that. Do I still have to suggest my off and defensive gameplans and strategies each week or will they do that automatically?
I've been doing it manually every week, and that's kind of a pain.

If you set the AI to manage gameplans, it will do it automatically.

Gotta tell you, the game itself is pretty good (even if I seem to suck at it).
But the increasingly frequent crashes during recruiting as it seizes 99% of processing & locks up everything when you're making an offer is about to kill it for me.
I don't have the patience to save between every fucking round since the saves can be so damned slow and losing 4 hours worth of recruiting work is enough to piss me off.

Hmm, since the latest patch I don't think I've had a single crash at any point in the game.

My recruiting is actually getting better & better, at least in terms of the quality of players I'm attracting. I just haven't yet managed to convert it into on-field success. Seems to be a play-calling issue, regardless of what method I've tried so far I can't do much offensively at all.

There were some people that had this a while back and I added some hotkeys that sometimes fix it. If you get in a situation where it appears to "lock up" on the question, press the 'N' key.
Also, is it happening when recruiting from the player card or recruit sort screen?

Thanks Arlie, for trying to help. It was probably at least a little crude of me to bitch without emailing you, but, dammit, I had literally just gotten the best recruiting week of my six seasons (4 2-star committments, most ever for even a full season) and then I locked/crashed. I didn't know whether to scream or cry or both. Heck, I still don't know which to do since in the re-do I've watched as at least two of those signed elsewhere.
The lockup was on one of the "Yes/No" screens, the "are you sure" question for removing an offer from a player. I'm pretty sure that each of my freezes during recruiting have occurred during that action or during the similar "yes/no" for clearing an action. I've also had a couple during Save Game attempts and at least one when trying to look at a different Team Info.
I looked in the tech forum earlier today (before posting) but must have somehow overlooked the hot key tip. Thanks for passing it on though.

Meanwhile, is there a known scenario where the box score you get for your game & the game you just completed bear no resemblence to each other?
And that the box score appears to have been for an extra game?
Maybe that doesn't make sense, let me try explaining it.
My poor MTSU Blue Raiders finally manage to play an in-state opponent close - in this case losing to Vandy by less than double digits. Game over, the rest of the week sims out, I get interrupted for a little while so when I come back to the computer I want to look at the box score. What I see is a 44-14 loss, which also appears in the Team Info screen as the final of the last game listed. I shut the game down without saving (although it's quite possible that I instinctively saved after the end of the week, I simply can't say for sure). I reopen the game & load the season, sure enough, still a 30 point loss ... but I notice my record is 5-8 even though I only played 12 games.
Umm ... WTF?
Arles

Looks like a double sim of some sort. I'm guessing that while the record shows one more game, your player stats show 12? Are you using the latest version (1.52)? Either way, I haven't seen this one. Did you sim the game fully through or exit in the final minutes of the sim? I'll try and recreate it.

I went ahead and got this this morning before I got on the truck for the next two weeks. Getting loaded right now and going to fire it up for the first time.
I never really considered this, but since a new version won't be out this year I figured why not..... Also, I still have MacroGuru in my mind saying how much fun he had with it back in November when we were working together. It's worth a shot. ;)

Simmed fully through AFAIK. Heck, I didn't even know there was a way to exit out in the final minutes.
Player stats do indeed show 12 total, but even that is a little weird.
-- The "game log" view of the player card does not show any results vs Vandy from either game (maybe the last game is always missing? I never noticed one way or the other).
-- The html view of the player (the one you get if you click their name from the team stats screen) shows the stats of the now missing/replaced/ duplicated game, the one for which there's apparently no box score.

I re-loaded the game to give it another try, and it has definitely improved a lot. It's a really neat game now, the checklists make everything easy to navigate and I really like the play-by-play, it makes it very interesting to "watch" the games.

gstelmack did write a utility that takes the PbP and allows you to 'watch' the game. Quite a few folks in the FOFC-BBCF use it.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. It looks like the game tried to sim the game a second time and errored out when storing info in the DB (duplicate keys). I've set it up not to crash in this instance, but it does mess up the game log/box score. I'm looking into it to see how this happens.
Thanks for the info and help on this.

Have you tried copying the save file in the "backup" folder to try to restore the game? (as described over on their forum) Saved my ass a few nights ago when I had the same sort of problem, figured I at least ought to make sure you knew about that.
The freeze-while-saving is one of the biggest aggravations I've run into with the game to this point. Minimum it happens to me at least every couple of days, although usually it's just lost work and not the version of the problem that requires the backup copy to restore it.

you're a beautiful beautufil man mr. JiMGA. I need to keep going with this team. Brought in a #6 nationally ranked recruiting class last year that led me to a 10-1 season, and in this recruiting class I just landed 2 5-star OLB's to shore up my defense already.

I'm just lucky that I happened to remember reading something about that over there when I first bought the game, otherwise I would have lost my (far less successful but still kind of attached to) 15 season career at MTSU. Just search around over there a bit & you ought to be able to turn up the thread that explains what to do.

I asked this question over on Grey Dog's forum on Friday and everybody must be out for the weekend so I'll ask it here. Is there a time limit as far to how long I can try the demo?
I know you can only play the first season, but I'm more concerned about a real life kind of time limit, à la "3 days and you're out" that I experienced with TPG2 the first time around. I might be tempted to try this one out but since I've never played any college sports game before, and barely follow college football, it might take me some time to fully know if I'm gonna like it or not...
Thanks in advance.

I read on page 2 of this thread that you were mostly using the coach's suggestion for gameplanning, is that still mostly the way you play the game?
I'm asking because that would be the way I'd play the game. I'm not too big on gameplanning but the recruiting thing intrigues me...
