Just got the call from corporate.
Anyone looking for a pre-sales engineer in the mid-atlantic region?

Sorry to hear that. I hope you find something soon.
This was a much more depressing thread than what it looked like from the main forum link for me as the word off was not viewable on that screen.

It's almost equally depressing either way.

Dola, sorry to hear about the bad news CraigSca, hope you land on your feet with something better than what you had.

What type of engineer? If you can write code, probably. If you mean mechanical engineering or something else, then no I can't help (unless you can fix our HVAC, then they might bring you on board :D )

Pre-sales engineer - let's see - it's a little different than being an actual engineer. We provide technical help to the sales team - the sales guy does the selling while a pre-sales engineer speaks to the specific product and does the presentations, configurations, etc.
I've worked with WANs, disk mirroring, optical networks and most recently (at least until an hour and a half ago) encryption appliances for storage area networks. Ugh, my WOOF team is the Encryptors. Time for a name change, I suppose.
As far as code is concerned - I've written mostly in VB and Powerbasic, though I do know some C as well (but mostly use PB for ease of use).
I get along well with others and enjoy pizza and people-watching. (my last attempt at humor until a new job surfaces)

Yeah. When I wrote the title I wasn't specifically thinking about the parody repercussions.

Thanks guys. As evidenced by other threads that are of a greater importance than mine (hey, it's only a job, right?), just hearing the good thoughts from others means a lot.
Take care...

Sorry to hear. I am facing my first layoff this year. We get 60-day warnings the middle of next month, then end the job in October. It sucks.
We are losing all of our IT people to a contractor (CSC), and our company is begging those IT folks to go work for the contractor. We "cost too much" now. :(

Sorry to hear about that, Craig. Based on your description, I may know some people in your field, I'll ask around. Good luck.

I'll echo the good luck sentiments. If you don't mind the 100+ degree heat, there are some opportunities out west I could send your name to. Let me know.

Sucks man, got my taste of it earlier this year. Although i knew i could fall back on trucking. Despite that i would say i didn't really move on and get out of my funk until a month or so ago. Good luck man.

That blows. I hope it all works out for you and hope something pops up soon for you. I know you specified the Mid-Atlantic region, but, is relocation an option for you?
I wish all the best for you man.

Relocation? Heck, providing for the family comes first. I'd commute and/or move all over.
I actually commuted to Boston from Delaware before - you do what you have to do, right?

I got laid off last fall, but was lucky enough to be hitting the market at a time when my skillsets are needed. If the same thing had happened in 2002 I might have been in much rougher shape.
The thing is, even knowing there was demand, it was still a nerve wracking time. So I can definitely empathize with you on this one. Best of luck.

Craig, my company has a Sr. Consultant, Technical sales position open it appears in both Princeton, NJ and Herndon, VA. Both are a good bit aways though, and I know very little about the position. If you have interest, drop me a PM. I can get you the details and such at least.

No, I totaly understand. I'm up in San Jose and my family is still in San Diego, granted it is not a 'commute' as I only get to go back home about once a month.
I'm not trying to be lame here, but, here's a link to Apple's job search thingee (http://jobs.apple.com/index.ajs?BID=1&method=mExternal.showSearchInterface), you can search it by state, though not all states are there.
They do have jobs in Virginia, Philly, and DC which seem to be the closet places to where you are in Delaware, but, I'm not sure if they are something you would be interested in applying for.
Good luck, I hope something comes along real soon.

Hope this cheers you up a little...
The boss had to fire somebody, and he narrowed it down to one of two people, Debra or Jack. It was an impossible decision because they were both super workers. Rather than flip a coin, he decided he would fire the first one who used the water cooler the next morning.
Debra came in the next morning with a horrible hangover after partying all night. She went to the cooler to take an aspirin. The boss approached her and said: "Debra, I've never done this before but I have to lay you or Jack off."
"Could you just jack off?" she says. "I feel like sh*t."

From the irony department - I was just "re-hired" until the end of the week because the company made a committment to a customer and has no one available to perform the work.
So, for the next two days, I'm employed. Think I'll go buy a boat or something.

You know, the first impulse is to say, "stick it" - but the extra money will definitely help and I got a really glowing email from HR about my "professionalism".
The letter will give me a tremendous amount of warm fuzzies when my house goes into foreclosure.

Being a former SE, I know how rough of a market it can be, I will hit my feelers out there. And if you haven't tried it yet, Linked In is a great way to make some contacts, it's in my signature...

Hey, here's a kicker. Just recieved notice from the company that I owe them $$$ because they overpaid my commission in Q1 and Q2.
Sure, let's see, I have tons of money laying around!
Uh...any lawyers in the house?
