Flying into Chicago tomorrow. Staying at the Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan. Busy during the day Monday + Tuesday and leaving Tuesday night, but if any Chi-town FOFC members want to do a meetup on Monday around dinnertime or shortly after for drinks somewhere close to that I am more than game.

hey I bumped the thread on like tues/weds.
nothing ever came of it.
I should be out this way again though on business.
actually ended up busier than I would have liked this time around with work and scheduled activities by my friend. Only had like...2 nights of sitting around doing nothing, if that.
You're a few months late, bub. Try St. Louis.

Damn, sorry I missed the thread when you bumped it. It's kind of a busy time for me at work, but I think I can make it sometime.

i'm game for drinks anytime after like 5pm on Monday anywhere in the general easily-accessible downtown-vicinity. My conference is at the Drake.

Let me know if you want to come out to the west 'burbs and I can hook you up :)
But if it involves me coming into the city, then I can't do it this time around.

I'm in Hanover Park, which puts me about 30 miles out of the city. The time it takes to drive it depends on what time of day you are leaving. Rush hour, that is about 90 minutes.

See hoops's response, and that's unfortunately my case as well. I don't work in the city itself, so it'd be fairly impossible for me to get up that way in any resonsable amount of time after work.
West Burbs for the win!
DaddyTorgo
07-23-2007, 10:16 AM
love to head out to the west burbs but time-wise that seems pretty horrendous as it would inevitably be rush-hour heading out and I didn't even rent a car this trip as I'm just a mile from the confrence so I'd hafta do public transportation/muddle something together. plenty of business out this way...I should be out around here again for some longer period of time/be more mobile
btw...love chicago...downtown is beautiful!!
pass...barkeep...anyone else in-town itself...suggestions on where to meet for a drink?
Passacaglia

There's tons of places, but nothing particularly stands out. I live kinda close to where you are, so that area would work for me. BK, you have any ideas?

No, I'm not a city person, though I would love for it to be some place with-in walking distance of Metra so I don't have to drive downtown.

BK...you out in the burbs too??
as far as where the train station is...I've got no idea what's near that but I'm happy to give you my # and meet you there or whatever.
if you're out in the burbs too though...if someone can tell me a vaguely centralized place out there and if theres some type of public transportation we can do that...

I'm out in the burbs in a completely different direction than hoops and CW. They would have to tell you how to get out to them, and I'd be happy to drive out that direction if it's possible for them to do it out there.
DaddyTorgo
07-23-2007, 01:12 PM
lol ok. well if hoopy or cw want to tell me how to get out there public-transportation wise I am down for it
otherwise...if you want to come into the city we can do dinner+drink BK. I'm sure there is stuff by the train station

Alright. Acting fast here, after talking on IM with DT.
I'm pulling for the Kerry Piper, my bar in Willowbrook. I can pick DT up from the Metra (there's a stop about 2 minutes away), we can have dinner/drinks/shoot the shit, it's nice and relaxed, and right off of 55.
Thoughts?

well the timing is essentially out of my hands...LOL.
I'm not sure yet when I'm thinking...as I said I'll be in town with clients, and though they know the city better than myself I will need to entertain them at least through dinner I presume.

I for sure have dinner with the client on Sunday night + Monday night. But he's not the type to be out crazy-late I don't think.
I'm staying right in the midst of downtown, on West Adams.

Definitely not. You can probably head over to Millenium Park and see "The Bean" if you were jonesing for something to do with a lot of people around. But yeah, the loop is dead outside business hours.

pretty much dead...yeah. Nah...I have dinner with the client and then after that I'll probably just take it easy. Feeling poor ($$-wise) tends to do that to ya. But hey...I'm around, if you want to grab a drink at some point or something.

I'm buying a house in the not too distant future (need to be closed by April).
Seeing as that's also when the weather gets nice again, maybe I'll do a Chicago FOFC Housewarming/BBQ.

BUMP!
Two trips Sept/Oct
9/29: Staying in Oak Brook
9/30: Staying in downtown CHI
October 28-29: Staying at the airport Westin for a conference
Prolly will stay the night of the 29th either at the Westin or downtown and spend the day in CHI on 30th if that makes it easier for anyone to meet up...
Thoughts?

Oakbrook's way way easier for me to get to, if you wanna try and swing something. No way I can get into the city on a weekday.
Pity you're not gonna be in town for just a smidge longer. My 30th is this coming weekend.

my 30th is 10/5!! hahaha
i'm not sure what time i'm flying in/how much time i'll have in oak brook..i've got 2 clients with me so i'll have to do dinner with them. they're both older than us young'un's though. not sure if that even makes sense though since it's a weekday for everyone...

This week isn't very good for me, but I'm up for October 29th. My exam ends at 4:45, downtown, but I can get to the airport area with no problem, as long as it's close to the el.
DaddyTorgo
09-28-2009, 10:33 AM
what are you up to on the 30th Pass? my conference ends at like 5:30 or 6pm on the 29, so rather than fly home that night and get in all late and shit I'm seriously thinking of just taking the 30th and coming into the city - maybe even doing one of those silly bus-tours or something (believe it or not i never have...i have only a working-knowledge of the city). we could meet up then if that made more sense...

So I'm here in lovely ole Chicago.
Tonight I've got some conference-related dinner that goes till 9 and will probably just come back to the room and crash after.
Tomorrow night the conference wraps up before dinnertime.
I'm at the Westin O'Hare right now for the conference, so we could do stuff out here if that works for folks.
Alternatively I have reservations at the Hotel Sax (Priceline - $69) tomorrow night in the city, so I can head in there at whatever point and we could do a city-meetup. I'll be doing some sort of sightseeing on Friday in the city between like 8-2...not sure what exactly yet.
If it works out for anybody...I have sort of not mentioned it for the last month. If it doesn't work out that's cool...I'll just be chillin with my laptop getting myself ready for my marathon-weekend of FM-gaming.
