The most realistic representation of the challenging world of football is back and set to hit PC and Macintosh before Christmas 2007<O:P></O:P>

<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
LONDON (July 27th, 2007) – SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that Football Manager™ 2008 for PC and Apple Macintosh will be in stores before Christmas 2007. Football Manager™ 2008 is the next iteration of the prize-winning Football Manager™ series developed by world respected studio Sports Interactive. The latest version of Football Manager will be fully updated for the new season and will allow players to select their favourite club or international team and guide them to glorious success by putting them through Cup matches, Leagues, European Championships and even major international tournaments, with over 5,000 playable teams from over 50 countries.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Fan feedback on the previous version of Football Manager™ was, as always, taken very seriously by the Sports Interactive team, resulting in over a hundred new features, including a brand new advisory system to help new players through the different aspects of the game. This makes Football Manager™ 2008 the most accessible Football Manager™ yet, without losing any depth for the more experienced player.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
"With Football Manager™ 2008 we're once again raising the bar in the sports management genre." commented Miles Jacobson, Studio Director of Sports Interactive. "With dozens of new small features and larger things like a complete revamp of international management and the new match flow system, we're really looking forward to seeing the reaction from people when they get to play it on release."<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
With all-new features, improved gameplay and a depth only seen from Sports Interactive, Football Managerä 2008 offers a management simulation that is second to none. To whet the appetite of every Football fan, SEGA and Sports Interactive have unveiled the key new features available in Football Manager™ 2008. <O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
New features for Football Managerä 2008 PC/Apple Macintosh<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Match Flow – The largest change to match-day in a Sports Interactive game since the introduction of the second match engine. Match flow brings more atmosphere to match-days with match previews, team talks, opposition player instructions, the match itself, half time and post match. These now seamlessly follow on from one another, with no more pausing to make tactical changes, and a mini-radar pitch whilst making those tactical changes to keep you in touch with what's going on in the match <O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
International Management – The international management gameplay has been completely revamped for Football Manager™ 2008, including, but not limited to, media improvements, international retirements, player interaction, international scouting, improved pool selection, captain selection and a separation of international and club morale for players.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Easier to Use – A much cleaner skin, a brand new advisor system to help players through various areas of the game. A new notes and notebook system, better button positioning for simpler navigation and an updated tutorial and manual. Also, coach reports make taking over a new team easier, and the new calendar system lists all important dates throughout the season. These all help to make Football Manager™ 2008 the easiest Sports Interactive game to use yet.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Confidence – Players can now easily tell what the board and supporters think about their performance in the game through the new confidence section. This gives players feedback not just on their current progress in competitions, but also their financial management and signings.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Transfer Centre – A new way of managing all current transfer and loan bids for a players club, both incoming and outgoing, making it easier to compare bids and reject or accept them.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Match Engine Improvements – A greatly improved match engine, once again utilising the footballing brain of former ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 /><ST1:PLACE w:st="on"><ST1:PLACETYPE w:st="on">Republic</ST1:PLACETYPE> of <ST1:PLACENAME w:st="on">Ireland</ST1:PLACENAME></ST1:PLACE> international player Ray Houghton as well as other tools used by real-life managers to make the most accurate simulation of football in a computer game. The ability to change the pitch dimensions at the start of the season to suit players styles of play better has also been added.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Awards re-write – An overhaul of the awards system inside the game which is not only more accurate now, but also includes new awards such as the European golden boot, and a "best eleven", which shows the all-time (in game) best eleven for all teams and nations.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Finances revamp – To reflect the changes in modern day football, Sports Interactive have updated the finance area of Football Manager™ 2008 to better reflect the ever changing football world, with more information available to the manager too, including, but not limited to, corporate match day income, season ticket news, investment funds, improved sponsorships, collective win bonuses, and the ability to move around funds from the wage budget and transfer budget (and vice versa) at any point to help you in your quest for the ideal squad.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Fan days – The board can now arrange fan days to boost ailing attendances, or for matches that are likely to attract a low crowd, with a long term affect to attendances if all goes well.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Expanded media – More media and feedback than ever before, plus more detail in existing media, and a new competition news section to find out what major things are going on in all league competitions<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Regenerated player photo's – All in game generated players now have pictures using FaceGen technology to give each player more personality, and the ability for the players to be seen to grow up in front of your eyes as the game is going on.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Faster – Saving and loading is now significantly faster, with network gaming faster and smoother to play, as well as tactical changes and match reports being quicker than ever before.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>

I like the changes to international management - they may make it somewhat more worthwhile to actually take over a national job.

I'm also wondering what the "advisor system" and the new coach reports are, specifically. All good stuff, though. Probably (aarrgghh) another must-buy.

I wish I could take a current career and use it in the next version. I know I won't be able to pass the new version up, but it kinda sucks to always have to give up the career you've nursed along.

i will highlight here the things that really excite me on first-read

Match Flow – Huge for realism!

International Management - Sounds very improved. Particularly player interaction

Transfer Centre - Sounds like it could be handy

Finance - Thank you! This needed revamping and will hopefully be more accurate now. Plus, like the ability to move $$ between wage+transfer at any time...more realistic. Season ticket news + investment reports...neat. Collective win bonuses...hurrah! Does this foreshadow the return of...incentivizing players more...aka "win this match and I'll buy you all new cars?" type of player-interaction?

Fan Days - Sounds fun

Player Pics - SPLOOGETASTIC!!! I think I might be in heaven!

Expanded Media - Can't go wrong here

ummm...MV...how come we on FOFC didn't find out about this from you and had to go digging it up ourselves? Can't we get the hookup man? LOL

These are the kind of resources that Jim needs. Admittedly, he has actually accomplished quite a bit for being a lone wolf. I am still amazed at the game's speed with all the stats that it can store and how most of his games have a low bug count, but this would definitely take FOF into a level unheard of for an American football sim. The media interaction alone would dramatically enhance the game and can you imagine a 2D match engine.

Okay, I better stop daydreaming.

Considering the size of FM's database, that's got to be possible, right?

Considering the size of FM's database, that's got to be possible, right?

If you play Bowl Bound and have conference movement, that is as close as you are going to get in football. I would easily spend over $60 if all levels were available and I could advance from one level to the next. However, even FM doesn't handle that much data. High schools alone would make that thing so sluggish.

Definitely waiting for this, since I didn't get 07, and have stopped playing 06 in anticipation.

06 was my first WSM and going in I knew little about football. Lot's of help from guys here and on the SI forums taught me a lot. I too skipped 07, when it came out I was just really getting a handle on 06 and didn't want to start over. Which leads nicely into the next quote...

I wish I could take a current career and use it in the next version. I know I won't be able to pass the new version up, but it kinda sucks to always have to give up the career you've nursed along.

Continuing careers from version to version is something I'd love to see, it's what makes me buy ootp every year. With the way WSM is set up I see myself buying it every other year. I just wouldn't get enough play out of the game if I have to restart every year. Two years per version is about right for my style of play which is probably very slow compared to most since I watch all 90 minutes of all of my matches.

Oh, yeah and face-gen is a great addition.

I finished submitting the ratings for the Revolution to the Americas researcher a week or two ago... He said something about a free game.. I hope its true.. although even if not, it's a day one purcahse :)

I'm assuming that the Revs will be the best starting off team? :)

I'd like a better drafting system for the American side or at least a way where the kids get better

And better coaching progression :) It's great that my assistant manager is by my side for 10+ years but I would assume he would be snapped up by clubs sooner

I wonder if there will ever be a day when you'll get the ability to create a custom league.

I haven't bought FM for a couple of years. One major drawback for me was the lack of an 'almanac' type feature. In other words, I couldn't keep track of, let's say, the top 10 goal scorers in my team's history. Once players retired, they kind of disappeared. Is this still missing from the game?

here's an ongoing FM pet-peeve or whatever.

In player histories only league goals are counted and displayed. To find total goals, or goals in other competitions you have to go year by year and tabulate by hand.

I really think there needs to be a "filter" option on this screen, to enable it to be broken down better, by individual types of competition, as well as an option for an overall "total". And along with that a "just at X club" option (ideally for all the different clubs, but i'd settle for "just at current club").

So many times I want to see how many goals a guy has scored for me to see if he's approaching a milestone or whatever, and I have to go in and add it all up and then subtract out goals from the years he wasn't with me and all. It's a pain in the ass, and in a game with this much stat-keeping there's no reason it should be.

i'm hopeful this will be in 08?

Other things I'd like are the player almanac (though the database size probably precludes that), but more importantly, I want to see the Belgian and Scottish leagues stop acting as financial sinks - ie they buy a player for a million, then sell him a week later for a 100K (because his valuation is lower in Scotland than anywhere else). I'd also love it if not every club was ridiculously rich within a few years - especially in Spain and France. Really, just some more financial balance in general.

My #1 wish as well.

Unlikely to happen in a hurry I'm afraid because a lot of the competitions in the game change format each year (ignoring the hit and miss effect of trying to add new data to kludge in new features which wouldn't have been available in the prior games version).

That being said - its also something I've wanted for ages (not least because if it was implemented how I'd want it we'd be allowed to select a 'start year' for the game date and play through from that year having the 'real' players regen as they came into view in real-life .... but enough dreaming on my behalf ;)).

I wouldn't necessarily need an almanac for the entire world, but at least for 1 selected league or even just for my own team would be nice.

I know people have argued that soccer isn't like our baseball where there is so much obsession with stats/recordbooks, and therefore an almanac isn't as necessary as it is in a game like OOTP. But as a lover of numbers, that's what I look for.

Playing right now, and there's one more thing that drives me nuts - managers in the game don't seem to have an awareness of their past actions. This is active when buying or selling.

For example, if a team (outside the transfer window) thinks it needs a central defender - it won't just make a Bosman offer to one guy - it will do so for 3 different guys. Even when the best guy accepts, rather than withdrawing the other 2 offers (as a human would do), it goes on. The manager does not seem to be aware that he has fulfilled his positional need, and often overbuys (and yes, I recognize a situation where he would need many players).

Along these lines, I've seen premier league teams (Chelsea, Man U) etc flat out refuse to sign backup players - especially keepers. Teams go through seasons with "greyed out" players as keepers (and other field players), which is ridiculous at the highest level. Say Chelsea sells their no 1 keeper while I'm negotiating for their no 2- they ought to cancel the deal, because then they wouldn't have any depth. Instead, individual team managers pay no attention to the other activities they are conducting - instead of viewing transfer activity as one, over-arching thing, they look it as a series of unrelated individual steps.

Does anyone else get what I'm talking about? If someone makes me an offer for my star keeper on Aug 31, there's no way I'm selling him if I don't have backup (or I will make an effort to get sign someone else quickly). Conversely, I'm far more willing to sell a striker if I have a target in mind to replace him already. The AI shows no such awareness of a transfer master plan, and its annoying to see European teams with greyed-out players starting.

I agree. It would be nice to be able to click a tab and see career leaders for assists, goals, red cards, shutouts (for goalies) highest average rating et al. A top 10/20/50 would be nice depending on how easy it is. It also would be nice to see a players league goals separated from the rest of the goals. I know it used to let you know when a player hit his 100th league goal or played in his 100 league game, but it would be nice to be able to find out a players progress

Does anyone know the recommended computer specs for FM08? I'd probably run all of England in full-detail and then the top league in France, Holland, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Does it run better on OS X or Vista?

I'd like to know before a potential computer purchase in the next little while.

Thanks.
