View Full Version : FOFC Alma Mater Fantasy Football (now claiming 2008 teams)
QuikSand
07-27-2007, 10:34 AM
We've done this for a couple of years... why not keep it going?
Short version -- you get a team, consisting of only players from one college.
Fairy standard league setup, head to head weekly matchups, but no playoffs.
If you had a team last year and want it back, claim it here. If you want to stake your claim to a new school, post that here as well -- I think the league will hold either 16 or 20 teams.
I'll post roster details, etc once I have the league set up. I plan to make them the same as last year... here's the link to last year's league thread:
2006 FOFC Alma Mater Fantasy Football (Time to set lineups!) - Front Office Football Central (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=50956&highlight=mater)
Oh, please don't sign up unless you're at least willing to put in the absolutely trivial amount of work necessary to manage your team. It sucks having to ride herd on people who though this was a great idea, claimed a team, and then refused to spend even two minutes to get things together.

If CW isn't going to have a QB, I might try my luck with Oklahoma. Maybe Paul Thompson will make the Packers and play a "Slash" type role or something. Plus, I have good receivers and a few good defensive players to take. Although, lack of kicker will kill me too. I'll take Oklahoma for now, I guess.

I'm back with Tennessee.
I posed this last year, but would anyone be interested in setting up a bowl system for the league for the last week of the season. We'd have to "hand" score, in the sense that we'd compare scores of teams in the relevant match-ups. Just a thought--keeping with the college theme.

CU really doesn't have much in the way of quality talent in the league right now. I think it'd be fun to upset one of the big boys in this, though.

I could do this, but would prefer to skip the insta-last-place finish of choosing my alma mater (good old IU). If another team is needed, I'll throw in my name and pick a different Big Ten school... looks like TheOSU went unclaimed last season, is it still available?
If not, I'd be happy with Wisconsin.

I have supposedly triggered the auto-draft, and the site now includes the message:
"Your auto draft will be completed between now and 11:59 PM PT on Monday, Sep 10."
Sorry to have dragged this on longer than was reasonable, guys... the odd number of teams (but then we got pelted with two late joiners after cthgomer drpped out... WTF?) didn't help thing, but I shoudl have just drawn the line a week or so ago.
I will do my best to get this sorted out, thought we may need to start with Week 2 NFL games, I'm guessing.
QuikSand
09-06-2007, 09:55 AM
We'll start with week two. Once the auto-draft runs, I will go and manually void all the (many, I'm sure) illegal rosters, to at least help out the teams who are trying to pay attention. Thanks in advance for those who actually set their draft lists to select your proper players.

I went in an pruned most of the rosters... possibly an imperfect job, but nearly every name player that isn't on your roster yet ought to be sitting there available as a free agent, for you to get your own roster in shape for next week's games. Thanks - it looks like the majority of the league at least put *some* guys into their draft tool, making my job a good deal easier.

Do you think I can petition the Titans and the Bungles to keep Kerry Collins and Kenny Watson starting full time?

I'm in. I'm going to change things up and dump Tennessee to go with my likely hapless Yellow Jackets. No QB, but should be able to score some points at WR and on defense, and perhaps a garbage TD every now and then at RB.

Can I finally get Rutgers into this thing? I think i've been dropped 2 years running at the last second to make sure it was even # of teams.

I didn't post in the thread, but I rejoined the league as Notre Dame. Maybe I'll get a QB by the second half of the season. It would be a first for me :D

West Virginia is in and gives us an even 12 teams. With Steve Slaton and Owen Schmitt in the NFL, I now have ball (or water cooler) carriers, so beware! :)
Are we hoping to add a few more teams still (I know I don't see Rutgers on there yet).

I think we're running up against the deadline:
"Leagues that complete drafts (live, auto, offline) after 11:59pm PT on Monday, September 1 will start scoring in week 2. However, the commissioner can adjust the league setting "Start League scoring in" to Week 1."
So we might need to get on this tomorrow.

We're sitting on 13 teams... honestly, nobody out there wants (frex) Ohio State? I don't mind making the manual settings, but I'm not exactly interested in going team by team and manually setting up each person's roster. My suspicion is if we get to an even number and run the draft even tomorrow, there's still going to be a lot of work for someone to do.
It's looking like this might die on the vine this year. For that I apologize... just haven't been really motivated to spend a lot of time here recently (gee) and I kept forgetting about this entirely.

How many teams do we need to get started? I just resigned up as LSU to put us at 14. (Hopefully Russell playing QB full time this year gets us competitive if this goes forward.)
Edit: but yea, there probably will be a lot of teams with autodrafts not properly set up, there was a good bit of that last year wasn't there?

Your auto draft will be completed between now and 11:59 PM PT on Friday, Sep 5.

Could you just do a commissioner draft and have everyone pick nobody and start the league with free agent pool?

Crap. I slacked on getting my list done, and now it looks like I can't do it. And I'm leaving for El Paso on Friday morning, so if the draft is on Friday I'm screwed...

Tried, but it won't let me finalize a draft until all the slots have been filled.

I take the blame for not getting this together this year. A combination of me not having the perseverance to do enough thread-bumping to get people to sign up, and the bad luck of us having an odd number of teams every single time I checked in. I actually checked the setting to run the draft some time last week, but it looks like it never did. If we had a week to spare, we'd have been able to overcome these delays, but as it stands, I'm declaring this year a miss.
Sorry, all.

I know at one point we were at 14 teams after ct deleted his team, but then it appears someone else deleted their team, dropping us down to 13 and I guess stalling the draft...
