I've had this happen. I think its new to FOF2007. Keeps you guessing on a player, which is good.

I actually remember seeing things along these lines in 2k4 a couple times. I followed the development of QB Sammie Holmes in the NAFL very closely. I actually still have the files from tracking his progress. When I drafted him, I thought he had a good chance to creep up, which he ultimately did, but his future rating sent mixed messages the first couple years. (Unlike Travis Kitchen, his current rating did come along very quickly, though.) Here's the breakdown:

Rookie pre-camp - 22/56
Rookie post camp - 22/54
2nd pre-camp - 30/53
2nd post camp - 30/58
3rd pre-camp - 44/57
3rd post camp - 45/58
End of third season - 66/66
4th pre-camp - 72/72 (He got a 6 point bump when the league made the conversion to 2k7.)
4th post camp - 73/73

Early in his fourth season he hit his peak of 74/74.

Perhaps it was there all along then. Its probably rare enough to miss it in either version.

I've seen that a couple times, which is why I try not to cut draft picks.

Maybe theres something different going on. Maybe the player is really a 70, and had a +4 creeping, plus a -10 random bust at his first TC. The next year he no longer is busting, and continues creeping.

I had a safety who was creeping hard, was 65/65 with 7 positional experience, in his rookie year, and was playing like an all word player. Blows his knee out in game 12, and goes on IR. Comes back from IR the next season, and busts out to 49/49 in TC. I say crap, but I dont have another strong safety to play, so he gets the starts, and starts creeping AGAIN. He creeps up to 68/68 (and then bounces around from 67-71), and ends up like 3rd all time in PD%, and 2nd in INTS.

I've really got no way to tell if he was always a 70ish player, and recovered fully from the injury, or if he was a 90 player, and the injury busted him down to a 70.

We'll see where he ends up, but the first camp is still the key indicator in the majority of cases. In the 27 seasons since I've been tracking, I've had 13 players who were in the -5 to -7 range their first camp. Only three stayed in the league long enough to get cur=fut. Those three were:

24/61--->41/41 (-7 in the first camp, -20 overall)
27/68--->49/49 (-7 in the first camp, -19 overall)
37/83--->64/64 (-5 in the first camp, -19 overall)

I kept one around, from the very first season, just wanted to see what he'd do. He was pickd 5(31) as a 16/62 player, was 16/55 in his first camp, never gained current points despite getting playing time, and by the time he was released (around his 5th or 6th year, so no aging in all likelihood, also no injury), he was 10/29. Point being, I see two possibilities here:

1. A small number of players were specifically designed to thwart Change_Tracker, and this guy might be something.
2. This was just a blip on the radar, and he's really a -20ish or worse just like the rest of the guys I've seen who had similar results at the first training camp.

At this point, I'm going with option #2: I cut him, and he got picked up. He's a 33/52 now. I'm guessing that if he plays enough to get more unmasked, he's no better than a 40, and maybe not even a 35.

Changing scouts can do really wierd things.

In the NAFL I had a scout retire on me, when the new year started I had 6 or so young and middle aged players drop between 5 and 9 points. I hire a new scout and they are back again to their original ratings, plus or minus a point.

Its gets more wierd. I had one guy who was 31/50 season end, 30/53 with no scout, then 27/44 with the new scout. This guy was previous a creeper who was gaining points every off season. The new scout is good with QBs. Thats confusing.

In the vnfl I had a player 64/64 season end. Scout sees 58/58 when the new season starts. Hire a new scout, he is 64/64 again.

I just hired a new scout. As soon as the scout hiring ended, most of my young guys lost a few points off current and potential (including summer league DE who had started 9 games), and a few vets gained one point. One vet lost one point.
