you jest...but I saw the trailer for National Treasure: Book of Secrets and thought it looks at least as fun as the first one.

*now i'm not saying it's great cinema, but the first one was a fun action/caper movie, and I see no reason why the 2nd won't be too.

I agree, I was just surprised that they made a second one. I will most likely watch it once it is out on DVD.

I read somewhere this is a stand alone movie, not connected to previous storylines.

I get a smidge of pleasure out of seeing David Duchovny's career flounder (keeping in mind, he's made more money than I will ever see in my lifetime so it's not as if he's starving or something). He was the one who made some crazy demands and then left the show because he thought he had a big movie career ahead of him.
