View Full Version : Anyone else having a good Monday?

My Monday morning:

After two days and three nights at the Cringer Estate, I wake up after a few hours of sleep and get ready to go to work. Get to where I park the truck while at home, at about 0800. Enough time to do a pretrip, drive to my shipper, and have time left to spare.

Jump into the truck to start it before I load my stuff into it, and it won't start. Try again, dead. :(

Call my company, it turn call for road service to come get my truck going. A bit of good luck, it only takes 30 minutes for the guy to get there
(pretty damn good for road service). He gets me going, $125 dollars is paid on behalf of my company, and I get going. After a stop at a truck stop to scan my paperwork from last week (so I get paid friday), I head to the shipper.

Get to the shipper, get through security, and go to back up to the dock I was assigned. Hope out of the truck to open the doors, and in the process I take my keys clipped to my shorts off so I can take off the padlock. Open the doors, back to the dock, and hop out to go register in the office. Oh shit, I just locked myself out. I had tossed my lock and keys into the cup holder when I backed up to the dock.

SO I went and signed in anyways, and took the chance to ask the guy if anyone had a slim-jim. Nope, but thankfully this part factory. One of the main guys went and made me two. I stood on the top step, killing my back twisted in an odd position, for about 45 minutes. My truck shut off about 15 minutes into this (somewhat normal since I wasn't inside to stop it), and I was paranoid that even if I got the lock the truck would be dead again.

All in all, it iturned out ok. FInally got the passenger side lock to pop, and the truck even started back up. This is a bad start to what is supposed to be 2 1/2 weeks on the road.

/end rant.

Lots of stuff not in the sim, including now sitting half the day here to get loaded. ;)

Well, I have had a horrible Monday as well, but I won't bore you with the details. This should have been a good day, but from start to finish I hit road-blocks. Sucks.

My Monday consisted of driving 2 and a half hours to Muskogee, Oklahoma, arriving at 8 am, listening to some of the most boring seminars ever, then driving back home again. Home by 2:30 so not too bad, but the first half of the day was just painful. While I was there, I got a call that a co-worker was found dead in the bus shop at school. That kind of sucked. I didn't know him real well, but I did deal with him fairly regularly and he was a great guy. He was enormous, so I have to assume it had something to do with that, but I really don't know yet.

So yeah, Mondays can suck.

I was actually rolling right along, not feeling too bad despite a summer cold.

I then get this email:

Hi John,

I wanted to let you know that GreenStone is no more. Our last day is August is17th but we will no longer need automation help as of August 7th...

Anyway, thanks so much for all the help you’ve given us the last couple of months. You have been wonderful.

My part-time job is no more. :(

Now I need to look for another job

Monday was a bank holiday here in Sydney, but despite working for a bank I had to work anyway, like a sucker.

Thankfully all I did was listen to my ipod and browse the web, with the occassional kitchen raid for chips+drinks.

Monday was the first "official" day of my vacation so it should have been good.... but...

It's been the vacation from hell so far.

Started Friday with the normal monthly poker game. Won the Hold'em but was starting to get a headache near the end of it. The headache got worse on the way home (around 2 in the morning). That night it turned into a full blown migraine.

That kept me out of the loop all day Saturday. The wife ended up taking the kids out a few places that day to give me a quiet house. As the headache subsided a little I got up from the couch to get something and I felt a "twinge" in my back. I have had back problems on and off so it was a feeling that I knew too well.

I ended up being laid up the rest of the day Saturday and all day Sunday from my back. Today it has been a slow day where I have been getting a little better. I can get around now with pain that I can live with now. I just hope this isn't a sign of how the rest of the week goes.

Oh and to make things even better I have been on the phone several times talking to work. I am in a major project and figured that I would check my email at one point today and had all sorts of nasty "why haven't you responded?" emails today (all about emails that were sent today and what was worse is that they were by people who knew I was on vacation- I guess our new regime doesn't understand that whole vacation idea). At least the last conversation was actually with my direct boss who said "stop being an idiot checking your email and enjoy your vacation".

For Cringer, I hope your day got better. I guess you can at least be glad this wasn't happening in 40 below weather (sorry, hooked on the Ice Road :) ).

Monday's gotten progressively worse and I'd love to get to the point of posting in the Drunk Guy thread, but naturally this being the kind of day it is, I only have a glass of plum wine remaining, so I'm drinking that and hoping I can fall asleep early.

Of course that means I'll be up until 6 am or so.

One thing you can count on, someone is always having a worse time/day. And if you are the guy at the top of that billion link chain, your probably dead and don't need to worry any longer. So my day ended at 2am, and had been up 22 hrs. Don't ask me how that works with Hours of Service regulations. A little sleep though and it's a new day which is going good.
