I'm on a fairly reasonable laptop, a Dell D630. Core2 Duo, 1 GB ram, 256mb video.
Looking around the department stores for a decent game to play while i'm here in the US, anyone have any idea of the good games now?

I have CoH. Company of Heroes wouldn't run well on my laptop. I refuse to play that game with 1Gb of ram. :) It works magnificently on my desktop back at home though. 2 GB ram and 512 mb of video processing power.
I think I'll go look into Civ4. Haven't really given it a look. I used to play the heck out of Civ1 and Civ2, and got turned off by Civ3. Is there a collection pack that has all the expansions? (Just to save me some $$$) :)

I haven't seen it, but some people have reported buying a Civ 4 collection with both expansions.

Think there is a Gold Edition with the regular game and Warlords. I think you'll have to buy Beyond the Sword separately.
FM07, FBCB, BBCF, DDSPB, OOTP2007, TCB, etc. Any good text sim is great to play in a notebook as graphics are not an issue, also wargames. But what kind of games do you like?

Games I've been playing Dominions 3 (great game MP) and IL-2:1946 (flight sim). I am in two Dominions 3 MP games, soon to be one. I spend roughly 2 hours a night on a couple of IL-2 servers which is great fun.

I currently have Black and White 1 running on my laptop.
I mostly go with RTS, 4X, and text sims. I was thinking more of games that i could buy in stores, and that don't require me to have to download and go online and register. I also don't have my credit card with me right now, will be getting it a couple of weeks from now.
I already have FM07, but i'm a bit bored with it right now.
B&W and FM are the games running on my laptop... and I think B&W is losing its novelty on me after having not played it for the past two years.

Overlord on PC is 'ok' - its not gripping me but is fun in small blasts.
I'll push 'Battle for Wesnoth' if you like strategy games and of course there's another FM on its way in a few months ;)

You don't need to get the first expansion Warlord. BTS the 2nd expansion includes everything that Warlord has in it.

Oh geez, Galactic Civilizations II is great. I'll also back Marc on Battle for Wesnoth.

Went around Walmart, Civ4 is just too expensive right now. :)
Bought an EA games collection of Black & White 2 w/ expansion, LOTR BTME 1, and C&C Generals w/ expansion, and RTW w/ Barbarian Invasion for the same price.

Ok. I'm going to stop passing any game store.
I've just reached my own personal limit for buying PC games while I'm here in the US. :)
For $100, I have bought:
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth
Command and Conquer Generals
Command and Conquer Generals expansion
Black and White 2
Black and White 2 expansion
Rome Total War
Rome Total War expansion
M
Neverwinter Nights
NWN Expansion 1
NWN Expansion 2
NWN Expansion 3
True Crime New York
Splinter Cell Double Agent
That boils down to about $7.70 per game, and about 1000+ hours worth of gaming.
