It's only like $25/year to get this. Anyone have any experience with this? There has to be some downside to this since it's so cheap.

I have one (have had for over a year and a half).
Only downside I've found so far is that flickr is nowhere near as cool now that it's owned by Yahoo as it was when it was on its own..

I have it and have no complaints whatsoever. I don't even necessarily agree with tk as I think some nice features have been added recently.
To me this is a no-brainer registration.

Took the plunge and so far so good. Uploading all my originals (thank god for 10 Mb connection :D) and with a little tiral-and-error all seems decent. Definitely appears worth the $25/year price. Only wish it could accept NEF (nikon raw format) files.

Yeah, it's great for backups if nothing else. It would be nice if it allowed RAW, though.

it was essential when i was on vacation and taking an obscene amount of pictures. i think it's been well worth it.

Absoluletly. I shoot in NEF (nikon's RAW). I'll just keep putting them on DVD and use flickr for the jpgs.

I purchased a Flickr Pro account earlier this summer and I'm very happy with it. I didn't know if I could justify the price but it's great to have unlimited uploads and online backups. I'd recommend a Pro account to anyone looking for cheap storage and a fun experience.

Anyone get prints through this? I've used snapfish and the prints are great.

I got one last year and it's been perfectly fine. Just a place to stash pictures off of my VPS space, so if something goes wrong, I don't lose 'em. But no complaints here.

Is Flickr useful at all for linking pictures to message boards, or is it more for storage and showing off entire picture collections?

Yes. Pro Accounts have unlimited bandwidth. Actually, let me test it now... finding something to link.

The photo is even marked private so when you go to my page you don't see anything but you can still link to individual photos regardless of security (private/public). You can even link to different sizes of your photos.
IOW, the original is 3000x2000. This might be the medium size and all resizing done without having to do a thing.

I've used it to get prints through Target and it's been fine.

Unfortunately, you can't directly link images on message boards unless I just can't figure it out.

Hmm.. I'll have to look at how you did it - I see a red X, but i know flickr is blocked here at work.
Actually.. now that I think about it, it may have been picasaweb that I had trouble linking from.
