It is hot and the A/C fan is blowing but the compressor is locked up. So after a week of fighting it and trying it the blackmarket way (a superbooster) Im gioing to breakdown and have the A/C guy out this week. I have my lube out and am preparing for the raping.

Isn't your house fairly new?

Most compressors have an one- or five-year warranty, so you may be able to get it for free.

I know this because I just went through the same thing this Spring.

yeah, parts will be covered but not labor.

Yep, that's where it hurts... f'n labor.

We had an issue where one of the lines that feeds the house was cracked, the part was covered, but after the labor we still paid $400. Oh well, I guess it could have been worse.

Trust me when I tell you that the parts and labor hurts a lot more than just the labor. :)

The thing that pissed me off the most was that a salesman came out to look at my system (my return is older and probably on borrowed time, but my pump, which contains the compressor, is only about 3-4 years old) and, in the course of trying to sell me on a completely new Trane system, tells me that all Trane compressors have a five-year warranty. So, I go over and show him the serial number and date on it, (which was like 9/2003) and tell him that the Trane reps told me that it had a one-year warranty and could he speak with them, and then he totally changes his tune and starts talking about other features.

Needless to say, he didn't get a return phone call from me.

I think you're right. :)
