View Full Version : Taking a bath

Does taking a bath really make any sense? The purpose of a bath for the most part is to wash off FILTH. Then that filth ends up in the water that you are sitting in. You are pretty much just redistributing dirt.
Any males here still take baths? Just curious. I'm strictly a shower man as I can't get past the above pondering.

I find a bath a couple of times a year to be relaxing. But once I'm done sitting and relaxing, I take a shower right after.

Did you just watch a season 1 episode of "Dilbert"?

nope. was actually inspired by someone I was talking to who said "taking a bath in a hotel is gross" which led to the relative merits of the bath itself.

i refuse to take baths, i only do showers. even in my own house. i don't want my ass/back touching anything that dirty feet and grime have come in contact with. even the thought of taking a bath grosses me out. if i think about taking a bath in a hotel i will vomit and send the proceeds to rkmurf.

It's all about the best of both worlds - sitting down in the shower and just letting it rain hot water on you.

Oh, I'll never bathe in a hotel. I hate standing in the showers to shower too. I still do it, but I find it disgusting how many different feet have touched the shower. In a bath at home, I at least know who's been in it.

How the hell was this not framed as a Kramer quote, from you of all people?
"It's disgusting. I'm sitting there in a tepid pool of my own filth. All kinds of microscopic parasites and organisms having sex all around me."

My sophomore year in college, one of the showers on my floor had a fold-out seat in it. Presumably, it was for handicapped people, even though the shower was the same size as all the others. But it still makes me gag just thinking of the different bodily fluids that must have been on that thing.

So do you guys use bubble baths or any kinds of oils?
...
Me either.

From a trivia book, the filth on your body ends on the surface of the bath. When you get out of the bath, that film sticks to your body. Supposedly a shower isn't as effective as cleaning as a bath is. Therefore for maximum cleanliness, you're supposed to take a shower right after a bath to wash the bath filth film off you.
Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who cares that much about their own cleanliness. I can't speak for this method as I've never bothered with it (but maybe MikeVic can).

I take ice baths after long runs, but then go the MikeVic route and take a shower afterward.

I just take a shower after a bath because it does seem dirty to clean yourself in your filth. A warm bath feels like it clears your sinuses a bit if you have a stuffed nose, and seems to help with headaches.

I used to enjoy a nice steaming-hot bubble bath with cold wine, candle light & smooth music. I would shower afterwards...
Haven't had a bath in five years, since breaking my back.

Well here in England I have found quite a few old houses don't have a shower at all. Just a bath.
Some have a bath with the shower head on a leash type attachment affixed to the bath taps so that you can bath and then rinse off whilst sitting in the bath (now drained of bath water).
My bathroom attached to my bedroom here in London has just this design. It took me a long time to get used to it as I was strictly a shower man in NZ, even more so once the electricity was hooked up to my town in 1993 and the showers were hot.
I am now comfortable with it, but would not opt for a bathroom without a shower ever ever again. Typically, when house hunting, the first thing I do is run to the bathroom and check the shower pressure. If it is anything less than "Flay" then I would walk out. Unfortunately the house I am in was found for me sight unseen.
The worst is shaving. I have always shaved in the shower, and need the steam of the shower to loosen the pores of my sensitive skin. Now I shave in the bath. Thats where the rinsing is key.

I love baths... Most of my good ideas come when I'm lying there in the tub.
I'd like to try some bubble baths again, as they were awesome when I was a kid and I'd make these cutesy designs out of them.
Showers I'm not terribly fond of, but they're a good way to wake up in the morning, which is why I take them then.
Unless I'm at school... then I only take it in the morning if I get up in time, because I normally only get up as late as I can and still get to class on time. Those days I shower at night.

Shower to get clean, bath (typically with a book) to relax.

Ditto. Especially if it's "that time of the month" (I think I just heard all the guys reading this squirm in their seats) or if my back needs some relaxing.
However, I do find it infinitely easier to shave in the tub. So if I need to shave, I'll typically shower, then sit in the tub with a bit of water and shave (my legs).

Taking a hot bath kicks ass. I know, I know...it's the opposite of manly....some of you are probably saying..what else do you do? Suck dicks?
Nah, man..just love a bath...

lmao...awesome, but ugh at the same time. Does taking a bath buring that time of the month make....kool-aid?

Only when not feeling well. When feeling seriously sick I find a hot bath is really relaxing and usually helps sedate me enough that i can immediately get to sleep and shake off whatever virus is currently killing me.
So maybe 3-4 a year.

Every once in awhile, I'll lax out in a bath with a good book.

I am probably unique in this but I take a quick shower before sitting down in a hot tub, and then shower again more thoroughly afterwards. I feel awesomely clean and never leave a ring in the tub.

I hate taking bath's cause I'm taller and can not get comfortable. Maybe if I had a tub built for taller people I would take one more often.

That's why the old clawfoot bathtubs rule. None of this tiny ass enclosed crap that most modern bath/shower combinations are, which I absolutely hate.

I was once with a girl who chased me with her soiled tampon....I've blocked a lot of it out, but what I do remember is the thing was looked like a cherry popsicle, but with an even less funny ending than "Where do sheep go to get a haircut?"

Why did you only ask about males? Is it less weird for females? Or were you just trying to avoid getting this thread to degenerate?

Seems like a bath is a more femine thing to like I guess. Like whenever I picture slumber parties somehow a couple girls always end up in the tub together.

I don't know what girls you've been with, but most girls (myself and most of my friends) are more crampy in the week before anything flows.
And as somebody already said, it's not like it's a geyser.
You really are ignorant about women, me thinks.
