Are you a lord of prime numbers? What does your name mean?

Honestly the origin of my name is not all that interesting of a story. I have had this name (among others) for about 10 years or so now. It came from my days hanging out a lot on IRC. There was a particular group I was a part of that had a ranking system within the group (wolfs, lords and bears).

My name original started out as AllGood (clearly I don't think much of myself). So when I was "promoted" in the group my name became GoodWolf. I still use that in some places today. The next level up resulted in my name being GoodLord. I think for obvious reasons I wasn't a big fan of that name.

At the time my favorite athlete was Deion Sanders. So when looking for a name change I just took the first part of his nickname (prime time) and created PrimeLord. I never made it to the Bear level. :) Lame but there it is.

So what, exactly, is your relationship with Solecismic Games?

Complicated? :) I'd say my only official relationship with Solecismic Software is as a beta tester. The Solecismic Liaison role doesn't really exist anymore. If anything I would say SkyDog plays more of that role now than I do.

The liaison role was originally created as a way to try and streamline bug reports, feature suggestions, and really just anything else pertinent to Jim. I don't think it ever quite worked the way he was hoping though (probably my fault). In the end I think he decided it was better to participate directly with the board. I certainly enjoyed my time as the liaison though and make myself available to Jim if ever needs any assistance.

Elvis or The Beatles?

The Beatles, hands down. I have frankly never been much of an Elvis fan. There are a few songs that I enjoy, and I certainly can appreciate his influence on music. Still he just doesn't do it for me.

On the other hand I own everyone of The Beatles albums and have since high school. The music I am listening to tends to go in cycles, but there is almost always some Beatles in the rotation.

They sure aren't Eric Clapton though.

Tastes Great or Less Filling?

If we are talking specifically about beer, I don't drink. If we are talking about a philospohical view point, it's all about the taste.

Are you still playing poker? What is/was your prefered type of event (ring games, SNG, MTT, etc.)?

I am still playing poker. Right now my game is mostly a mix of NL SnGs and MTTs. That tends to change based on my mood though. I play a decent bit of Razz and 2-7 Triple Draw these days as well. I use those to kind of break up the NL Hold 'Em play.

Who's your favorite catcher in softball?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are not my favorite catcher in softball buddy. :) That award has to go to my buddy Jake. He played with us a few years ago, and frankly was possibly one of the worst softball players I have ever seen. He couldn't hit, couldn't run and couldn't even throw the ball back to the pitcher. I wasn't certain what I had got myself into when I asked him to play.

The thing is he certainly tried as hard as anyone on the team. He never became a great player, but by the end of the season he had mastered the art of hitting the short flare over the infield. It wasn't flashy, but he actually became pretty consistent at it. From where he started he made more progress than anyone I have ever seen in a year.

Would you buy me a hat?

Absolutely. I'll be sure to put a Florida Gators or LSU Tigers hat in the mail for you this week.

What do you do for a living?

I currently work in the IT field in application support and data programming. My job is a mixture of putting out fires and doing fairly small development projects. Programming is part of my job title, but our group focuses mainly on small projects that can be quickly written in Perl.

Have any post-secondary education?

Unfortunately I do not. For a myriad of reasons, all of which were my fault, I was not particularly successful in my first attempt at college. The only classes I really excelled in were my IT courses and that was really only because they were ridiculously easy for me and didn't require me to do any work or studying outside of class. For the most part I didn't even bother going to my other classes.

My success in my career has quite literally been a string of situations where I was just in the right place at the right time. At each job I took along the way I ended up meeting someone or was given an opportunity that later led to a greater opportunity being presented to me down the road. I have certainly worked hard for what I have, but I have no doubt that without a little luck along the way I could be in a much worse situation right now.

I still have plans to try and go back at some point. Not completeing my degree is something I regret and I have fears that at some point in the future it may come back to bite me.

Are you married? Have kids? Pets?

I am married. My lovely wife and I have been married for almost 6 years now.

We do not have any kids yet. That certainly is not for a lack of my wife hinting at it. Actually hinting is not nearly strong enough to describe my wife's efforts to convince me it is time to have kids. All of my friends insist it is the greatest thing that ever happened to them. I am convinced that is just a pact all parents make to lure everyone else in to being as miserable as they are. ;)

We have two dogs and a cat. Brooks is a 6 year old golden retriver, Zeke is a 3 year old australian sheppard (my favorite) and Ike is a 6 year old maine coon. I am not certain I could hate an animal more than I hate our cat. Possibly the most annoying animal alive.

terpkristin

Since you have some tie apparently to Solecismic Games, I'm guessing you like football? Or baseball?

Baseball was by far my favorite sport growing up. However football has supplanted it as my favorite sport these days. I still enjoy baseball quite a bit, but really only in how it affects the Cardinals. I'll watch any Cardinals game and some of the more interesting games involving other teams (Sox/Yanks, Dodgers/Giants etc) but outside of that don;t watch much baseball.

However I will watch any NFL game, no matter how bad the match up is. The new Super Fan package that DirecTV rolled out last year is a dream come true for me. With all the games shown throughout the week with everything cut out between each snap, it is now a rare week where I don't end up watching every single NFL game. My wife hates football season because she knows I am absolutely worthless every Sunday (and many Saturdays as well).

What is your favorite pro team (any sport)? College team (any sport)?

I suspect you were wanting me to just pick one pro and college team here, but I just can't do that. So I will break them down by sport. I was born and have spent the majority of my life now in St. Louis. So it will come as no shock that my favorite baseball team is the St. Louis Cardinals. However I began to like football while we were living in Dallas. So my first real exposure to NFL football was with the Cowboys and they have been my team ever since. I root for the Rams to do well too, but the Cowboys are #1 in my heart.

My college favorites were very heavily influenced by my dad. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska so it will come as no shock that I was raised on Nebraska Cornhusker football. That has stuck with me to this day. In all other sports though (mainly college basketball) my dad was a big Missouri Tigers fan and again that is where I am at today. I certainly root for Missouri in football as well, but I am always pulling for Nebraska when they play each year.

What is your favorite sport to watch? To play?

My favorite sport to watch is football. It's really not even close, as much as I like baseball.

My favorite sport to play is softball. This year I am up to 4 nights/days a week. If my wife wouldn't kill me I would probably play even more. I enjoy playing golf quite a bit too and occasionally still play some basketball, but I will drop all of that to play in a softball game.

What is the team (college or pro) you follow the most?

Despite the fact that I like football as a sport more, I probably follow the St. Louis Cardinals closer than any other team.

What color are your eyes?

Hazel.

Do you listen to any podcasts? If yes, which ones?

I have not made my way onto the podcast bandwagon yet. To be honest I am not certain I have ever listened to any podcasts outside of cthomer's.

You have met several FOFC'ers in real life - if you could have lunch with 3 FOFC'ers that you have not met before - who would they be?

There are actually a number of FOFCers that I wouldn't mind meeting in real life. So this is certainly not an all inclusive list. I'd say the 3 people here who I have spent the most time talking to, who I have not met and all of whom I would be interested in meeting at some point in the future are Jim, SkyDog and Kodos.

who better at softball - primelord, WSUCougar, or ardent enthusiast?

Heh I can see people quitting my softball teams over this. :) No actually I will say that I haven't played with AE enough to say where he would fall if I were going to rank the 3 of us. He had a bit of a rough stretch in his first season with us, but that really was not over a particularly large number of games and he certainly showed flashes of being a very solid player.

I would say Coug and I are actually probably pretty evenly matched. We both handle the bat pretty well and we both make our fair share of mistakes in the field. Coug was a nice addition to my team, but we are both far from the best players on the team.

What is your dream job?

I am not certain I know. For a long time I honestly thought working in computer security might be my dream job. However I had that job for 6 years and frankly it wasn't all I thought it would be. Overall I am a pretty simple guy. Whatever job required me to do as little work as possible, while paying me an enormous salary would probably fit the bill.

Jim G.

How did you meet your wife?

My wife and I are actually high school sweet hearts. We met my junior year in high school when I had to drive her and her friend home drunk from a party. I'll make sure to share that with our kids. :)

As I said above we have been married for almost 6 years now, but we have been together for a little over 12. I know many people feel this way about their wives, but I really lucked out with her. She is incredibly supportive of everything I do. Allows me to do things like waste entire Sundays for 20 weeks and hang out with my friends as often as I like. It's mostly little things, but I have multiple friends who are not in that kind of situation. I am a lucky guy.

What does she think of the whole FOFC/IHOF experience, and will she be watching as you shoot for the elusive undefeated season?

She is aware that FOFC/IHOF exist, but I don't think she has much of an opinion on it frankly. She was the author of the quote "Are you playing that stupid football game again where you just punch in a bunch of numbers but don't actually get to play?"

She will not be watching as I go for the undefeated season this Thursday, and she will not be impressed if I accomplish that goal. :)

What makes you angrier? A bad beat in poker, or a favorite team losing in football?

This was a tough question. On most days my football team losing is by far worse. Bad beats are a regular occurence in poker and as long as you got your money in good then it will all work out in the long run. So in general I take bad beats in stride.

With that being said, I have had days where a bad beat has put me into a pretty good rage. The better the player you are, the less likely that is to happen, but it happens to everyone eventually. When it finally does get to you it can be a pretty awful feeling.

Rick Ankiel? Real deal, or ridiculous hype because of his spectacular Blass-like exit from the league?

My fellow Cardinal fans will probably hate me for this, but I am sticking with ridiculous hype for the time being. (He did of course hit another home run today) He hit a lot of home runs in the minors, but also struck out way too much. The reports also said he was tending to feast on the nobodies in AAA and was having trouble with any real prospects.

With that being said it would not surprise me if he is pretty productive with the Cardinals. It looks like he is going to get the chance to hit in one of the best spots in baseball, right in front of Albert Pujols. If he sticks in the #2 hole he will see a lot of fastballs down the middle and he certainly has a lot of pop. So far he has looked very good at times and has looked completely over matched at times. I am certainly pulling for him, but I am a long way for anointing him the savior of the Redbirds.

CamEdwards

If you had to choose between your left nut or poker... which would you choose?

You would think this would be a pretty difficult question, but my best man from my wedding ended having to have a testicle removed. He seems happy enough. I'll go with poker. :)

3ric

Who better - Brian Patten or Hershel Tatum?

I am afraid I have insufficent data to give you an answer on this. Give me some time to compile a database of 10,000 plays involving Patten and/or Tatum and I will get back to you.

Subby

Should you fold for one bet in a huge pot that you know you have lost?

Assuming we are talking about limit poker then the answer is clearly no. You likely can;t be certain enough that you are behind in a huge pot to make a fold correct.

There is one caveat to this rule though. If a buddy of yours is taunting you in a wild 3/6 game in Vegas then I think you make the call there. It's worth giving up that ginormous pot to show him he can't get you to call just by taunting you. :)

Still seeing things during the night?

Unfortunately I am. As a matter of fact I would say it is getting worse rather than better. For those that don't know the back story on this, I suffer from what is most likely night terrors. If you do a search on night terrors you will find this is an affliction that tends to affect mostly children. Aren't I just a big baby.

The odd thing about this is I rarely see things that by themselves are actually frightening. What is generally so frightening about them is they just don't logical fit into what I should be seeing. I have woke up in the middle of the night and clear as day seen my golden retriver scaling the wall. I have seen the room filled with 100s of cats. I have seen the heads of clowns dancing above the bed (ok that would be scary in any circumstance), brids flying around the room, and even a blanket stuck to the ceiling. Often times these visions lead to me freaking out and waking my wife up. Again I say I am a lucky guy for her to still be with me.

I have posted this on here before, but I will again share what is lkely the best of the various things I have seen in the night. Picture for a moment the cartoon grandmother from the tweety bird cartoons. We have all seen her. Gray hair in a bun, glasses, apron, plump, etc etc. Well one night I woke up and she was attacking me with a wooden spoon. In a move of sheer panic and desperation I jumped out of bend and was fending her off with a pillow. I finally woke up and realized what was happening when I tripped over the cat and fell into the wall. I have issues.

Where will you and your wife be going for vacation spot this summer (if you haven't already)?

We are actually leaving for a week in Hilton Head with some friends this Saturday. We have rented a beach house there. It should be a good time. When we started planning our vacation, this trip was supposed to be a cruise of the Greek Isles and then a week in Italy. Somewhere along the line it got changed to Hilton Head. Not nearly as cool, but much cheaper.

What is your favorite movie quote?

This is a very difficult question for me. There are quite a few movie quotes I like.

I am going to cop out on this one and say that you can pick virtually any quote from The Big Lebowski and I would be happy.

Is there an image, good, bad or funny, of something you saw that's ingrained in your head?

I can't say that there really is an image that is ingrained in my head. Well aside from the grandmother attacking me with the spoon, but we have covered that.

This isn't what you asked, but along those lines I will say I over heard a piece of a conversation one time that is pretty burned into my brain at this point. I was walking by the guard desk one morning and I hear the guard tell the gentleman he was talking to:

"After yesterday's fiasco, I will never do that with a lima bean again."

Which begs the obvious question, what the hell was he doing with that lima bean and how in the world did it lead to a fiasco?

Say you're in a bookstore flipping through a book and accidentally tear a page, do you offer to pay for it?

Yes. I always handle situations like that int hat way. I have always fessed up in situations where I think I did something wrong even if I think I could get away with it.

What happens if every team in the NFL goes 8-8?

We all yell at Jim for FOF failing to accurately reflect the NFL?

If you had the power to flip a switch and make any band or musical artist dissapear, who would it be and why?

My musical tastes span a pretty wide range. I am not a big country fan, but I am not certain I would have any of those artists removed.

I am going to go with Billy Joel here. I don;t actually have any problem with Billy Joel, but QuikSand is my friend and I like my friends to be happy. I also wouldn't particularly miss his music.

If you found $100 on the street, how would you spend it?

I would take that sucker to the casino and turn it into $1000 at a Hold 'Em table. :)

Actually I would probably try to figure out who belonged to. A few months ago I foudn a $20 bill in the front yard, essentially sitting on the line between my house and the neighbors house. I took it to them and made them take it when they said they didn't know if they had lost $20 or not. I knew I hadn't so I didn't want to possibly be taking their money. Like I said I am just like that in those kind of situations.

If you could resurrect a famous dead person, who would it be?

Another tough question. I could literally spend hours thinking of who the best answer to this question is. Instead I will just go with the first person that entered my mind. Stevie Ray Vaughn. I like a very wide range of music, but I am particularly drawn to the guitar. I could have said Hendrix for this reason too, but SRV was taken far too early in life and the world was robbed of one of the greatest guitar players ever.

What food smell makes your mouth water?

Frying bacon has that affect probably more than any other food. It is not one of my favorite foods, but the smell of it frying up drives me nuts.

What is your guilty pleasure?

I have become somewhat hooked on So You Think You Can Dance. Pathetic, I know.

How likely are you to "let go" of something that stresses you out?

Unless the stresser is a continuing event (say a rough upcoming month at work) most things have at most a 24 hour life with me. I can't always shake things that same day, but a good night sleep (or at least one that doesn't involve fending off cartoons) usually clears my head.

Sad, happy or indifferent that jbmagic is gone?

Indifferent.

Favorite softball bat of all time?

I'd say that Green Mayhem I had last year is probably my favorite bat ever. It's the first bat I think we ever got broken in to the point of it's full potential. That bat was crazy hot by the end of the year last year. It was also the first bat we actually broke from use.

Best softball memory of all time?

There are several good ones, but I would say the best one is probably the game where we won that first division championship last season. Many of the guys on this softball team have been playing together for several years now. When we first stared we were awful. I don't think we won a single game in the first two years we played.

Over the years we have improved significantly (not to mention we have added some better players) It all led up to that first division championship last year. For me and for the guys I have been playing with from the beginning it was a really nice feeling.

Favorite STL sports figure of all time?

Vince Coleman. I know Vince had some issues after he left St. Louis, but as a kid I LOVED Vince Coleman. I was devestated when he left in free agency. Especially to go to the Mets.

Why do you always wear a replica Rams football jersey to softball?

I don't have a lot of t-shirts in my wardrobe. I am not sure why exactly that is, but that is the situation. So for the most part I am left with the Holt jersey or an Emmitt Smith or Deion Sanders jersey (both of which are at least 10 years old and way too small now). I do occasionally wear my Cardinals t-shirt. It's either those or a polo shirt. :)

Career triples?

I am not sure what my career number is, but I can say that this year has probably been my highest number since I was a kid. I hit another one this past Sunday which puts me at 7 on the year. I also have two inside the park home runs this year, but they were both in co ed and I was frankly hitting the ball at a girl in RF who flat out couldn't catch anything.

Neon_Chaos

Pepsi or Coke?

Coke.

Boxers or Briefs?

Boxers. I have one pair of briefs and they feel awful.

Is it football, or is it soccer?

It's football because I don't give a rats ass about soccer (sorry soccer fans).

Larry Bird or Magic Johnson?

Magic Johnson and it isn't even close.

Chubby

How much would it suck to be undefeated only to lose in the IHOF Bowl to the IHOF version of the Buffalo Bills and fail to complete the Northeast circle jerk?

I'll be fine with it.

I'd just like to say that I'm completely with you on this one. Ozzie Smith and Willie McGee were my absolute favorites, but Vince Coleman was right up there near them.

Thanks for participating. I don't really know you that well, but it's great to read something from a fellow Cards fan. :)

Nice. I got married in Hilton Head and we try and go back at least once a year. Check out Casey's Sports Bar. Follow-up softball question. Some of the hitters on my softball team went in and bought a bat-roller for $500 bucks. Then bought 3 bats for a grand (total for all three on e-bay) and rolled the bats. Are they crazy or is this pretty standard for teams to do this?

Well bat rolling is a very controversial topic in the softball community. Putting the ethics of the practice aside for a minute...

The first problem with buying a bat roller is that there are a lot of them out there on e-bay that are frankly not very good. On the various softball message boards out there you can find a lot of horror stories of people messing up expensive bats with bad rolling machines. There are good ones too, but honestly you are generally better off sending your bat to one of the hundreds of people who are known good rollers and just paying them to roll the bat for you.

Again putting the ethics of the practice aside, they are not at all crazy for doing this assuming they are doing it with the correct type of bats. If they even know what bat rolling is then I am sure they are using the right kind of bats. Composite bats, like all of mine, need to be broken in before they reach their full potential. The different coposite layers need to be flexed. The traditional way to do this is just hit a lot of BP. What bat rolling does is essentially super accelerate that process. The fibers are flexed, but evenly across the bat. So the bat gets broken in, but with less wear and tear on the bat than BP. So you get a hot bat that will last longer and with very little work.

Many people feel like this is cheating. I am not sure I agree with that. People use all kinds of methods for breaking in their bats, from putting them into a vice to hitting them with a rubber mallot. There are a lot of ways to break in the bat without hitting BP. I don't really see how rolling is any worse than any of those. Now if you are shaving bats down or repainting banned bats them you are cheating. Unfortunately that happens a lot too.

With all that being said I have never had a bat rolled. I prefer to just go out and hit em to break em in.

Your eyes are open but you are still sleeping right?

Actually we are awake at that point. Most people go through the various sleep cycles when they both fall asleep and when they wake up. I am sure you are familiar with the sleep cycles. For example REM sleep is where you experince your vivd dreams. In the deep sleep cycle you still dream, but your mind actually tends to dream in just individual images at that point.

People with night terrors tend to wake up in the middle of the night and go directly from deep sleep to being awake. In that process, especially in a dark room, your mind has trouble orienting itself and you tend to still see the image you were dreaming about.

Just turning on a small light supposedly is enough to resolve the issue. If your eyes can see the room, your body will realize it is awake and drop the image. However my wife can't sleep in anything but a pitch black room. shurg.

Softball - Yeah, they tell me all the time about how they are composite bats. One has a what appears to be a flex/mesh handle like a golf club! One of the guys just won MVP for a fairly big tournament...I'm guessing the bat rolling didn't hurt. I'd venture to say it's not cheating, but a lot of the guys here can't afford that stuff and there are no batting cages to speak of. So there definately is a "rich get richer" issue.

But I don't think anybody really cares (or doesn't understand what's happening). And as long as they don't kill a pitcher. It will never be an issue here.

That's where I would be (about once a month and never when the TV is left on...so being a light issue makes complete sense). Sounds like you and Buc are a bit further 'advanced' however. Wild stuff.

I'm actually surprised that there isn't a bat manufacture that rolls their bats before selling them. Think about the marketing in the softball world...

Most BP would be off a real pitcher, batting cages aren't really good for breaking in an expensive bat, IMO.

Prime--If you're very lucky, maybe someday we'll meet in person. I've never met an FOFCer so far. Came close with VPI, but his business trip got cancelled at the last minute. I've had other offers, but my basic shyness kicks in. And my fear of internet psychos! (I'm looking at you, AE;)) But mostly it's my fear that people will think I'm a dork in person. Probably the same reason I've never posted a picture. Self-image troubles... :(

Well, he's met me, and I *AM* a dork in person. So there's precedent.

I'm sure people think I'm a dork on the Internets too... ;)
