Any help would be great. My team is 0-11 so far and in dead last place. I went to the site that tells you the best players for your team and set them from my match on 3-3.

what should i look for in transfers?

my team was set at 90% training on goaltending... this doesn't seem like a good option

I assume i should leave my arena alone until i get a half-way decent team

should i hire any coaches or economists or doctors? how much money should i spend on my youth squad?

should i test a youth player?

anyone up for a match?

whew that's alot... any help would be great. as of now i'm just playing around and seeing what happens. looks like this is going to be tons of fun

I just got my team yesterday, I'm the Rio Grandes (#8688) in Division V.55 in the USA, I have no clue what I'm doing yet if you want to setup a friendly :)

1st let me say you are a bastard for already having a passable keeper, covet him, he is your friend.

I suggest that you train stamina for the first 3-4 weeks at least, in the 2nd half of matches stamina plays a big role in the hattrick sim engine. Bump your training level up to about 95%.

Your team isn't too bad, you got a keeper and a couple of decent strikers, you might want to get some middle defenders, but all personell decisions will be based on the alignment you choose to run. Hire some assistants and a couple goaltending coaches, and a couple spokespersons also. You don't need doctors or economists.

Don't bother testing a youth player yet, just a waste of 2k wait until you get to inadequate. Oh yeah, and don't touch your arena yet.

Look around the transfer market and try to get a feel for it, assessed value is absolutely no indication on the market value of a player. Try to focus on a couple of 17-18 year olds that have a key attribute at inadequate, they should train fairly quik. DO NOT THINK 500k is a lot of cash it goes REALLY fast, so try not to overbid on players.

If your going to look offensive, get some midfielders, you seem to have a couple of strikers. If you want to look defensive, get some better defenders, try to get a passable middle defender and I try to get someone who is passable at defending and winger at the wingback positions. All in all it will depend on what you want to run.

starting with 2 passable keepers is pretty good, McSweeny. They are both under 25 and you've got a 25 year old inadequate keeper too. Mmmmm

Just got my team today, too. The Newton Rams (#71010). I would challenge you, but I already accepted a challenge from a foreign club.

Is there a FOFC federation?

Yes, there is a FOFC Federation. You have to have Supporter to join, though. If you want to join, just do a federation search by name and it should come up. Welcome!

Inadequate isn't too bad and all out is nice as is pleasant and inad leadership. He's not too bad but if you have a bit of cash (and I mean 100s of thousands of bucks) later on, then it will be time to make a change.

Starting Lineup
GK: Hannila
DW: Loomis, Ortega
DM: Nowack, Cervero
WI: Fraser, (Gibbons)
MI: Guyton, Ponder
FO: Kimball
BENCH: Godfrey (mid def), Barreto(keeper)
FIRE/SELL: Ott, Green, Villarubia, Yick-Cheung, Shelton (sell), Sanz, Mack (sell), Urzay (SELL!! $$)
(parenthesis are players who need to be replaced, ask if you have any questions about the abbreviations)

You have 3 nice defenders but only 1 is a winger so you may have to be smart and play an asymmetric defense. I'm not smart enough for that so I run two wingers but if you're smart, you can pull this off.

Kimball is a great scorer and Guyton is a great utility guy who is all around good but not great. A couple of cheap wingers and a solid inner middie and you have yourself a damn fine 4-5-1. Then again, you look like you're already in debt so things could be interesting. You have two nice goalies, as everyone is pointing out but it's time to sell one so you don't end up in permanent debt.

yeah, i am in debt. I paid too much for a few players and made some other newbie-type mistakes. I'm about 100,000 bucks in debt. I'm hoping selling Urzay can cover that.

Aside from that, i'm looking for cheap-o young kids to train up.

Thanks for all the advice!

That's where the real money is and that's what usually takes most of us a bunch of debt to figure out.

Couple quick questions:

What do you guys consider 'cheap' for a player with inadequate or passable key ratings and between 17-19 years old?

EDIT: Clarification: I'm trying to train midfielders, so should I even care about ratings other than 'playmaking?' Passing seems to be semi-important, but any time I find a guy with anything more than 'weak' in passing, he goes for about 50,000 US$. That doesn't seem cheap to me...

Is there any way to have multiple hattrick windows open? I run into serious problems when I try...and if not, any navigating tips? I just go back and forth between links a lot on the site.

The price on Inadequate and passible varies so much between times of transfer deadline and league its really hard to give any solid answers. I've snagged some sweet under 20k multiple passable stat gems at awkward hours. Big thing is the hours of the marketplace your looking in, and of the "Major" leagues.

I try never try to set my hopes on anything selling mid to late afternoon EST, as bidding wars are par for the course (Makes a great time to sell though. :) ) I've found searching through all the markets in the early morning hours to be the most fruitful. That said, I tend not to go to far above 5-15k for multiple inad stat players, and 20-35k for multiple passable stat players.

The big thing, and I forget who posted it on the boards, but it has become my mantra, evaluate the player and set a ceiling on your bidding before it even gets to that point. Don't get yourself caught up in bidding wars.

I also check on anyone who starts going back and forth bidding against me. See what league their from, the series, and their standings. I also check their transfer history. This givs me a general idea of the bankroll I'm up against and how I want to go about the bidding.

On the multiple windows, I've logged on in two different windows, and "opened in another window" different areas of hattrick without any problems so far. Well, unless you count accidently bidding 21k on a player not worth 10k in the wrong window. :( Still praying someone outbids me on that one.

oops, sorry for the rambling.. Sort of addicted to the game. :)

Eilim: I know the feeling :) This game is ridiculous, and I haven't even had a match yet. Thanks for the info, although last night (or rather this morning...between 3-5 AM PST) I was still having trouble finding decent deals...it seemed there was always at least someone who would push me over my "ceiling" I would set for a player. Oh well...more time to browse :)

Been there, done that. Really sucked.

The other thing that I recommend a lot is to check other markets. I like Polska, Romania, Argentina, Oceania, and a few others. Prices seem a lot lower there as long as you dont mind the 20% extra wage.

Is there any method to the madness of other market checking? I just kind of randomly pick other countries to look through...I've found a couple of low priced players, but I'm never online when the auction's about to end, and I always end up losing :(

Portugal and Romania are my favourite bargain hunting ground. Er, WERE since I haven't been able to go to the market in awhile. I usually have my best luck late US time.
