Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury before Congress, has resigned. A senior administration official said he would announce the decision later this morning in Washington.

Mr. Gonzales, who had rebuffed calls for his resignation, submitted his to President Bush by telephone on Friday, the official said. His decision was not announced immediately announced, the official added, until after the president invited him and his wife to lunch at his ranch near here.

Two words....Recess. Appointment.

Agreed. They'll appoint someone during the recess period who will be more of the same. Bush Attorney Generals are like filters, if they get too mucked up to be useful, simply discard and replace with a new copy...

So does anyone else think it's more than just coincidence that Owen Wilson "attempted suicide" to change the news cycle?

I'm actually shocked that if this really happend on Friday, that they didn't announce it Friday afternoon, where they usually announce things that they'd rather not make too big a deal of.

Unless they wanted to make a big deal of it, in order to allow the moron..er, president...to distance himself from Gonzales.

I'm just sad that Jon Stewart is on vacation this week.
