Screw Baseball Tonight

So I missed the end of the Reds game on TV because I was driving, but heard on the radio the end of the game where BPhillips later was quoted as saying he made the play of his career. Naturally, I want to see it. Shit, it ended the game!

So I watch Sportscenter which covers 4 NL Central games for the night but ignores the Bucs/Reds game (I thought they cover everything??). Then I DVR Baseball Tonight and even check ESPN.com's Reds/Bucs game recap, no ESPNMotion highlight. Reds.com has a highlight of Griffey's game winning RBI but alas no Phillips highlight.

But ESPN.com does give me the pleasure of getting even angrier with the fact that I can't watch this highlight anywhere:

• Did you see that? With the Reds up 5-4, Pirates pinch-hitter Josh Phelps doubled with two outs in the ninth. When Nate McLouth singled into short right field, it appeared Phelps would score easily. But second baseman Brandon Phillips hustled to run down the ball and, falling backward, made a strong throw that allowed catcher Javier Valentin to tag Phelps, who did not slide, about shoulder high.

Baseball Tonight didn't show the game either. What in god's name, so we are 8 games out so I don't get to see what happens/

Since I just posted this it got me wondering if anything was on that was showing highlights from last night, I flip to FSN Ohio which is listed as replaying last nights game....

So I flip to it and OHHH it's high school football. Lies!

Yep, they do this all the time now at ESPN and BaseballTonight. If you want to see the highlight on ESPN, your best bet is ESPNews.

I used to like Baseball Tonight for getting a feel for what happened in baseball on a given night. But I'm with Shorty on this one.

I watch a segment and I feel like I could learn more by spending 30 minutes with box scores. Unbalanced coverage, random highlights, and theatrical commentary. Bah.

BT gets a bit more praise from me now as I just noticed on their "Due Up" graphic, there is an image of a guy in the background and lo and behold it is Josh Gibson, which I'm sure 99% of viewers watching won't even know who that is.
