New Nano design (http://feeds.engadget.com/%7Er/weblogsinc/engadget/%7E3/152590678/), too:

El-Jobso just dropped news that the whole iPod lineup is getting a refresh or replace -- including the nano (http://www.engadget.com/tag/nano/). Apparently those "spy photos" weren't too far off, as the new nanos look almost identical to the stout player we've come to know and love. The new units will include 2-inch screens with QVGA resolution, and apparently boast the same quality as the iPod video. The new displays have the highest pixel density the company has ever shipped, and it seems the extra-wide players will sport an "enhanced" UI with its own version of Cover Flow. The nano will come bundled with three games, including a circular-Arkanoid rip-off called Vortex, and apparently you'll be able to purchase more from the iTunes store. The battery life is fairly impressive as well, with Apple touting 24 hours of playback for audio, and 5 hours for video. The 4GB model will be selling for $149, though it's only available in silver, while the rainbow-colored 8GB will leave you $199 lighter in the wallet. Both models will be in stores "by this weekend."

new:
I think the Red shuffle. $80
nano fatty (with video) $150-200
thinner ipod 80gb - $250, 160gb - $350
ipod touch - 8gb - $300, 16gb - $400
iphone - 8gb drops to $400, no more 4gb
Glad I didn't buy an iphone when it came out, costs $200 less.

Easy Mac

and in a year I can get a $1500 laptop for $500, what's your point?

my point is i think they deliberately came out with a small capacity at a high price point. its just annoying how every 6 months they make the last thing you bought suddenly crazy overpriced.

Wow, I was about to buy a nano about a two weeks ago and my buddy told me to hold off because Apple was going to be coming out with newer versions at lower costs. I'm glad I waited.

350$ for the "classic" 160 GB version seems like a good deal, though. I guess I'll stick with that for my Christmas upgrade...:D
Any word on the Euro release?

I'm not crazy about the new look, but then again that specific model never appealed to me. I either want massive storage in the 'classic' model, or ultra tiny size in the shuffle.

Me neither, I only got an old 1G 2GB-model for using it with the Nike+ thing. I guess I'll stick with that, too. Or, I could buy a 2G now, before they become unavailable.

So, if Skype can work on the Ipod Touch, then I'll basically have no reason to need a cell phone(assuming a wifi connection)?

So will this drive down the price of a 60GB ipod that is still in stores? If so, how much?

Do most mp3 players have microphones built in?

Yeah, looks nice, I'm sure Apple will per usual have an excellent design and UI. For starters, Nokia will have to drop the price on the N800. Who knows what they'll do, the marketing for their tablet has been horribly mismanaged from the start.
I would point out that the Nokia can match Apple on storage with the use of SDHC cards. Other than that, I think that the N800 has more than a few competitive advantages: I do rely on the N800s bluetooth capability (so I can pair it to my cellphone in situations where I need internet access without wifi) and voip. Apple probably isn't including this functionality so iPhone sales won't be cannibalized.
But in the end, gadget choice is intensely personal. People have different needs, and there are a multitude of good choices out there...

from my experience it will simply be gone and replaced. I imagine the unsold ones probably just go back to apple.
I imagine you can find them online still, but no idea if you'll find a bargain or anything.
My 4th gen iPod is still going strong, for whoever the smart aleck was that showed up in my I just bought an ipod thread nearly three years ago saying enjoy it for the year it lasts. Original hard drive and battery, too.

A 4 gig Nano for 149 actually slightly tempts me to actually buy one of these things. Probably not, but I at least considered it for a few seconds.

New iPod Nano :(
Why a video screen that small? Just stick to making a really tiny mp3 player that has pretty good capacity.
The iPod Classic becomes a really good deal now. The Touch is overpriced and why would anyone really want a 8GB or 16GB player when the Classic has 10 times as much capacity (and in this case the "10 times as much" is not an exaggeration in the slightest).

In case anyone is interested, there is a pretty good write-up comparing the Touch and the n800. The verdict seems to be that they are both good machines, a lot of overlap in terms of functionality, but which one is more appropriate depends on your needs...

I was really interested in the Touch when I thought it was basically the iPhone without the phone. Once I found out it lacked some features and they had crippled others, it just doesn't make sense for me.
