Am I the only one that had no idea he was 71. I would have guessed at least 15 years younger. In any case, RIP. My wife was a voice major in college (after dropping the premed track) and he was one of her favorites.

This was one of the few opera singers that most people could instantly recognize only by the sound of his voice - a hallmark of a truly great singer. He'll be missed.

Never liked opera, but I was very sad when I heard the news this morning. Maybe the most known Italian in the world the last decade. He'll be greatly missed.

Never liked opera, but I was very sad when I heard the news this morning. Maybe the most known Italian in the world the last decade. He'll be greatly missed.

Hmm...if asked "name an Italian", Sophia Loren might usually be the first to come to my mind, but Pavarotti probably has been more active in the past 10, even 20 years.
