My mother goes under the knife for a pretty major surgery this morning.
Complete replacement of the primary artery in her leg. Like a 3-4 hour surgery. Nasty shit.

I will sacrifice a yak in her name.
On a tangent, this is one of those procedures that when I hear about it I feel like I was born just in time... what a wonderful world we live in.

Pops saw her briefly, she (unsurprisingly) looked like hell, but the doc said she's got normal bloodflow to her legs again, heart & kidneys stayed fine throughout the entire surgery, so it looks pretty good.
Gonna be like a month recovering, but all should be well.
Really appreciate all the well wishes.

That's great news. :-) My mom also had her veins in her legs operated on 2 weeks ago. The blood was not flowing the correct way.
Yup, thank god for the miracles of modern medicine!

Just got off the phone with her, she sounded pretty good. Tired, but good. They've moved her from ICU to a regular room.
Apparently, the ICU nurse was a total dick, too. My dad kept trying to call, but the phone was out of my mom's reach. Nurse ignored the call button to come move it over, didn't bother refilling her water glass, and she was freakin' thirsty as all hell.
Now, this is a woman who doesn't take shit from ANYONE, and she was not happy. Bitched out the nurse, and the guy apparently just ignored her after that, and got the rest of the staff there to do the same. Also refused to escort her from ICU to her regular room, which is hospital policy.
What dude didn't know is we happen to be friends with the Director of Nursing's husband. Whoops.

Glad to hear she's doing well enough to be moved to a regular room. :)
On a side note, little "ins" like being friends with the DoN's husband can be dead useful. My mom has a PhD, thus her business cards say "Dr. Pilotte." She also happens to work at a division of NIH. Needless to say, before my aunt and grandparents passed away, if they were in the hospital, she'd leave her business card with the nurse and amazingly, my relatives had some of the best care they'd ever had (by their admission, based on previous hospital stays where my mom wasn't around or didn't drop her card).

She's ahead of schedule on recovery. Went up to see her yesterday, did a lap around the wing, so she's up and mobile. If all continues well, she'll be out around wednesday.

Heh, now that mom seems to be out of the woods, cross your fingers and hope I didn't tear one of my knee ligaments at softball today. Landed pretty funny running out a close single.
