A friend of mine searched on Wikipedia for "hippo." His reason for looking this up was, "someone opined that "hippo" is the term in some places for a hot water bottle. I wanted to verify that, figuring Wikipedia knows everything to a first order."

It would appear someone's got a beef with a certain Marlie Galvan, as the entry shows:

Hippo can refer to:
hippo- is the stem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_%28linguistics%29) of the Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language) word for fatass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatass).
The animal Marlie Galvan (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marlie_Galvan&action=edit).
A horrible fatass Hippolais (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippolais).
From Greek mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_mythology), Hippo is the name of one of the girls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls), from crestview highscoolOceanus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanus) and Tethys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethys_%28mythology%29).
Also from Greek mythology, Hippo once pretended to be a roadrunner RMS what a fatass (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=What_a_fatass&action=edit). She wore clothes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothes) from the XXXXXXL section at Big World, Capylus.
Hippo Regius (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippo_Regius), a city in modern-day Algeria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algeria).
Hippo CMS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippo_cms) is an Open Source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Source) Content Management System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system) based on open standards. Not sure how long that'll last, so I took a screencap and posted it: http://kristin.seidelmann-owners.com/fofc/hippo_wiki_entry_20070907.JPG

Too funny. :D

The first one would have been kind of funny hidden in the middle of a legitimate list, but they spoil it by overwhelming the rest of the page.

*sighs* Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that anyone can vandalize/edit war on.

(Trust me, I'm an Admin over there, and some of the folks that I am currently dealing with on a long time, wide ranging edit war on Northern Ireland related artcles has me pulling my hair out)

At least that sounds like it's of some significance. I love the comic book guy edit wars like C# vs C♯.

I do trust you, I'm sure it's a pain in the ass for the admins. But it still cracked me up. ;)

Definitely. 10 years from now, kids will be saying "how did you do research papers without the internet". Hell, they're probably doing that now.

I can't imagine doing a literature search for graduate-level scholarship without online article databases.
