Police: O.J. Simpson questioned about Nevada casino break-in
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 09/14/2007 06:33:21 AM PDT
LAS VEGAS—Investigators questioned O.J. Simpson about a break-in at a casino hotel room involving sports memorabilia, police said Friday.
The break-in was reported at the Palace Station casino late Thursday, police spokesman Jose Montoya said.
Simpson was released and is believed to be in Las Vegas, Montoya said.
"We don't believe he's going anywhere," he said.
A Simpson attorney in Florida, Yale L. Galanter, did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment.
The Heisman Trophy winner and ex-NFL star had been scheduled to give a deposition Friday in Miami in a bankruptcy case involving his eldest daughter. But it was canceled because Simpson had told attorneys that he would be out of town.
Las Vegas police said investigators also questioned the alleged victims in the incident.
Montoya said the investigators report would be turned over to the Clark County district attorney on Friday. The district attorney's office would then decide whether to pursue an arrest warrant in the case.

WTF. Just heard on the radio the allegation that OJ and 4 or 5 associates charged into the room with guns drawn and took memorabilia previously belonging to or involving OJ.

That sneaky real killer. They almost caught him this time. Instead, he got wind of their tail and checked out of his hotel room early. He left the O.J. memorabilia to taunt them.
Then, while they were being detained by hotel security, he went downstairs, won $1.4 million playing high stakes baccarat, and got whisked away by his private diamond studded helicopter.
The real killer is a smooth operator. I can see why OJ has gone so crazy trying to find him.

Probably an incomplete quote. I imagine the guy actually said

I'm going to Vegas in a couple of weeks, do I need to worry about OJ possibly breaking into my room? Are there some extra security measures to protect myself that I should be aware of?

Just hang a Pumpy talisman off of your door handle, and that should be enough to keep you safe.

There is now an audio clip out there that was recorded during the encounter. It doesn't help Orenthal's case much at all. Also, in an interview right before he was arrested, he told a
reporter "I thought what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

The man is a menace and should be locked away indefinitely. Maybe the real killer is already in jail, and this is his way to take the search in a new direction.

I heard a portion of this tape on the radio this morning. If they can tie any amount of physical evidence/good witness statements I don't see how OJ gets out of this one.

Yeah, well blood evidence didn't work last time. I just doubt he will have the same level of counsel this time. And hopefully the jurors are not morons this time.

What are they up to, 10 felony charges? I think there'll be a plea deal here. He's looking at life even if he's found guilty of just a few of those charges. And juries often "split the baby" if they can't make up their mind.
The incident itself doesn't seem like a real huge deal. Both sides should jump at a chance to wrap this up short of trial, with some modest jail time (1-2 years).

Anyone else figure that if they do an Autopsy on OJ's brain after his death that they will discover similar trauma-related issues as they think may have caused Chris Benoit to lose it?
