This brings up an interesting subject I believe.
So you've got Bobby Petrino obviously in a bad situation with Joey Harrington at the helm. You could probably consider the season over already for them unless Joey becomes an instant all star.
With a top 5 pick not out of question for these guys, who do the Falcons draft?
Is Brohm the top QB in the draft? Some would think so.
Is Brohm the guy for them then? Will Tampa Bay jump at another QB? Miami? KC? All these teams may be ahead of the Falcons in the draft so they may pick Brohm up before the Falcons can.. they what do they do?
Just curious, thought it would be an interesting debate.
Go Vikings, :) (We might want to use a pick on a QB, too)

Is Brohm really the best QB in the upcoming draft? What about Colt Brennan?

Unless they own someone else's pick, I don't think the Dolphins are looking to be drafting before Atlanta.

Colt Brennan is a one-trick pony. I mean, until he shows that he can hand the ball off to a running back... :D

Kodos, after seeing your sig I have a question, why don't they all weigh a ton?

Don't know for certain, but I've got a hunch.

The worst possible outcome for the Falcons would be if they win a few games and remove themselves from the #1 pick (which should be Brohm). Unfortunately, I'm confident that's what they'll do.

The other day in my SP career, the Falcons drafted a QB named "Brian Randall" in 2009 to replace Vick.
Hey, I thought it was kind of funny anyways.

NFL scouts are going to pick Colt Brennan apart. His arm strength is very questionable and so is his accuracy. He's a great college QB in a great system. However, he isn't really asked to read defenses and a lot of his completions are to players that don't have a defender within 5-10 yards of them. He will struggle when asked to take snaps from under center, read defenses, and throw accurately to covered receivers. Simply put, he's another Andre Ware and I'd hope the NFL has learned that system QBs don't work at their level.
Brohm is a much more accurate passer than Brennan, but his arm strength isn't all that fantastic either. I wouldn't take either of these guys at the top of the draft (I wouldn't take Brennan in round 1), but Brohm looks like he'd have an easier transition to the pro game.

I'm suprised the Falcons haven't made a bigger push for Leftwich. He'd be worth giving a chance anyways.

Me too. But seriously, I think Booty is going to be the top QB drafted.

Didn't they say something similar about Brees when he came out of Purdue?

Am I the only one who thinks Tyler Donovan will be the 1st quarterback drafted?

You have been watching too much Big Ten Network.
Don't forget Wisconsin vs. The Citadel at noon tomorrow! Wouldn't want to miss that titanic struggle!

The biggest knocks on Brees were height and system. Accuracy was never a question.
As for system quarterbacks, I can make a much longer list of failed system QBs than than those that succeeded. For every Brees there's a Ware, Klingler, Kingsbury, Detmer, and Couch.

I don't know if Leftwich coming in after week one is much of an upgrade over Joey Harrington after a full training camp.

Who's knocked Brennan's accuracy? Wasn't it like 75% last year????????

Completion percentage in that system (or Mike Leach's) doesn't tell you anything. The only thing you can go by is where he's putting the ball and although I've only seen him play 2 games (both this year), his accuracy has not been very impressive. Yes, he completes tons of passes at a high rate. However, as I stated above, a good number of those are to receivers that don't have anyone close to them which is more the system than anything else.
Brennan is a great college QB. He's the most QB friendly system there is. He will not be a good NFL QB.

Until he has to deal with a pass rush. Then him and his happy feet will panic. I wouldn't go anywhere near Brohm if I was an NFL GM.

Well, I wasn't speaking specifically for just this year. Bring him in on a 2 year contract, let him learn the playbook. Assuming Joey sucks, and they are like 4-8, let Byron start the last 4 games. If he looks good, then you don't have to take a QB high next year.

I would love to watch Brohm play for the Falcons, assuming he can stay healthy and be able to move out of a collapsed pocket.

He will not be a good NFL QB.
I don't know why comments like that rankle me so much, but they do. Why can't people learn that at least half the time (and probably much more), definitive statements like that prove to be dead wrong.

I thought Brennan's 3/4 style won't cut it in the NFL?

So a message board discussing sports is the wrong place to make educated guesses on a player's potential by looking at past history and his ability?
At least half the time? Interesting statistic when you can look at the history of system QBs in the NFL and can probably name a couple (at most) that have had success.

It's not that it can't be discussed, nor is it that you did anything particularly wrong; it's just that it's a pet peeve when people say something as final as "He won't be good in the NFL" regarding prospective draftees who have never even suited up yet.
It's no biggie, it just annoys me.

Because Byron is not the future. Joey has about as much of chance of being a franchise qb as Leftwich (almost none). The Birds are better off sticking with the one they have, and if it doesn't work out, draft the future next year (or sign one. Maybe a Bree's type will be available at the end of next year. You never know).

The falcons are supposedly giving Leftwich a serious look. Joey's days are numbered...
