For the 1st time ever since its creation 152 years ago, the oldest trophy in sport is going back to Europe after the victory of Alhingi (sp?) over Team New Zealand in 5 games (best of 9 series). The victor came out of Switzerland, of all countries ! Switzerland does not even have an ocean or seasisde !!! It just has a lake...:D
Granted, the boat was skipped by a Kiwi and the crew was quite international (between 10 and 15 countries, I'm not quite sure...)

Now I don't normally follow sailing but that is truly a historical moment in sport.

Actually all the Swiss did was pay for it, so it's not really all that historical. :)

Did anyone see the footage from Race #4, where NZ's mast snapped in half?? That had to make it a little harder to win! ;)

The fact that the trophy comes back in Europe is historical, not the way they won it... It's like Cincy winning a Super Bowl I guess... :D

As an avid America's Cup fan (I actually watch the races on ESPN2), I'm glad to see the trophy go to Europe. It should make for some interesting sailing on the Mediterranean (where the Swiss say it will be sailed), and get more countries involved.
